Another home invader bites the dust

#1

Post by jbirds1210 »

I wonder if the word is getting around? As of lately, I feel that the score must be going in favor of the good guys? I surely have not read anything lately that refers to a homeowner dying by the hands of an invader! Maybe the news will get around.....Kudos to this fellow that disarmed his attacker and used it against him!

Houston man kills suspected home invader

By ANNE MARIE KILDAY
Copyright 2006 Houston Chronicle

A southeast Houston man struggled with one of five masked men in a "terrifying" home invasion late Friday, by taking away the intruder's gun and shooting him to death.

The resident of the home at 12311 Flushing Meadow may have wounded one of the other intruders, who forced their way into the house as an older couple was unloading laundry, said Houston Homicide Sgt. Mike Peters .

The other four masked men, who had claimed to be FBI agents, fled the scene in a grey Impala, Peters said.

Peters said the men approached the woman and her husband as they were unloading their laundry from their car, after they had returned from a wash-a-teria . The five men claimed to be with the FBI, Peters said.

The incident is the second home invasion within the last week in which a resident has killed a would-be robber.

A west Houston homeowner killed a robber, after wrestling his gun away from him last Saturday. That violent scene took place in front of the man's wife and five children.

Peters said there was one young child inside the southeast Houston home when the man heard "the commotion" from his bedroom at the back of the house. The man, who was in his mid-20s, came into the living room, where his elderly parents struggled with three of the men, two armed with handguns and one armed with an assault rifle.

"That's one of the terrifying things," Peters said. "When the gun battle takes place, there was one of his own children in the living room between him and the suspects armed with weapons."

Peters said the young man "did a pretty good job. He just felt that he had to take a stand."

But the man who shot the would-be robber was "shook up" after the incident, Peters said.

"It takes folks who are pretty resolute to do something like that," Peters said. "He is shook up, he is pretty upset. But he engaged in a pretty dynamic event that most people never have to engage in. You know, the people over in Iraq do it every day, but they are trained for it. This guy just reacted."

The dead man appeared to be in his mid-20s to early 30s, Peters said.

The other four suspects are still at-large, Peters said.

It is not uncommon in the Houston area for robbery suspects to impersonate law enforcement officers, Peters said. "Undoubtedly, we will find some other deals from other robberies, once we start working on it," Peters said.

The shooting is likely to be referred to a Harris County grand jury, Peters said.

I'll wager you're much more likely to be successful in repelling a home invasion if you already have a gun. Having to disarm and invader to get access to a gun seems like doing things the hard way to me.

Glad the defender was able to pull it off--I wonder if he'll do things differently from here on out.

And I wonder if any of this is sinking in for the home invaders. Kinda doubt it somehow...
Do you know about the TEXAS State Rifle Association?

Yes RP & that has happening here too. Claiming to be a Constable. I tell ladies, if no marks on the vehicle, especially w/ the dash mounted lights, call 911 tell them you are coming to the SO or PD & to contact the officer. They will either understand or RUN. Then tell the dispatcher.

Man shot after breaking into Ransom Canyon couple's home
BY MARCOS MORALES
AVALANCHE-JOURNAL

A 29-year-old man was shot in the chest after entering the home of a sleeping 70-year-old Tom Ritter and his wife at about 1 a.m. Saturday in Ransom Canyon, authorities said.

Ransom Canyon Police officials say the man stabbed Ritter with a knife after breaking the master bedroom window and entering the home.

Ritter's wife woke to the commotion and fired one round from her revolver into the suspect's chest.

Ritter was taken to Covenant Medical Center where he was in stable condition Saturday night, and the suspect was taken to University Medical Center where he was put in the intensive care unit and was under police observation.

Police officials say they will file charges and arrest the suspect, whom they declined to identify, when he is released from the hospital.

Another article (with photos and video) on the Ransom Canyon home defense:

http://www.kcbd.com/Global/story.asp?S=4682444

Excerpt:

"Just after 1am Saturday an intruder broke into the home and stabbed the sleeping male home owner. He and his wife then reached for their pistols stored beside their bed and opened fire on the man. The intruder ran from the bedroom but was chased by the wife and shot in the chest just outside of the room. "

--------------------------------------

That criminal though he was going there to do a double murder and got the surprise of his life. Fantastic team effort.

It's medical ethics. Even though we know what the person did, they have to be treated like everyone else and then sorted out through the justice system. I don't know how many times I scraped up a thug and had to be "friends" with them.

"This is the second home invasion we've had. The other one was two years ago and we had a double homicide on that," Ralls remembered.

But unlike two years ago, the husband and wife fought back.

Emphasis added. But let me emphasize further: "Yesssssss!"

The shooting is likely to be referred to a Harris County grand jury, Peters said.

When did they start bringing dead guys before the grand jury? It's pretty obvious who was committing the crime here.

I think Charles Rosenthal, Jr., the Harris county DA, needs to get over himself.

Pretty much ALL shootings are referred to a grand jury. Even if they are referred with a no bill recomendation.

True, most are referred, and I guess there are reasons to, but this one seems pretty obvious, granted there could be more to the story that wasn't reported.

I still stand by my statement that Rosenthal needs to get over himself.

Won't argue with that statement though.
