Fingerprinting certification by PD
Ok I know to be certified to do prints I need a letter from a law enforcement agency. What does the letter need to say? I have a dept that will do it but wanted to know the wording they would need to type up.
Then this letter is sent to whom in Austin?
Thanks!

Letter
All it needs to say is you have been trained in recording finger prints and have demonstrated your ability to do so... about three or four lines is enough.

Re: Letter
Do you have any leads on where one might get this training and letter? We've contacted several police, sheriff departments and academies. They either have no idea what we're talking about, or decline because of liability issues.cxm wrote:All it needs to say is you have been trained in recording finger prints and have demonstrated your ability to do so... about three or four lines is enough.

If anyone gets finds a lead, please let me know. It's inconvenient and expensive to have an officer come in to take prints.

I talked to a LEO that takes prints for me and, at one time, he was considering having a seminar on fingerprint certification. The problem was that he wasn't sure his chief would go for it.
They may also hesitate to do this because of the loss of money. In most cases, I'd rather have them do the printing anyway so my students get out quicker. I can't be teaching if I'm printing/notarizing/photographing. That's too much to do unless you have a small class, which I sometimes do in special circumstances. Then it would come in handy.
From what I have seen, there is no incentive for PDs to sign off on us. However, if we could find someone who could put on a class to certify a large group then that could be the incentive they need.

My wife and I are both instructors, so we help each other out. We also have breaks and an approved video that gives us time to do prints.ShootingStar wrote:I talked to a LEO that takes prints for me and, at one time, he was considering having a seminar on fingerprint certification. Be that as it may, we need to qualify for printing. Thanks.

I think I may have found someone. I'll keep you posted and let you know how things turn out, and if he's willing to qualify others.

Re: Fingerprinting certification by PD
Did you ever find someone willing to provide certification on prints? If so would you/they be willing to assist in helping out some of the rest of us?

Re: Fingerprinting certification by PD
According to DPS, they require a letter on law enforcement letterhead and signed by someone of authority, stating you have demonstrated your ability to roll prints. Actually learning to roll prints isn't that hard. Getting someone to write that letter is very difficult.fingerprintguy wrote:The only requirement in the State of Texas to roll fingerprints is to know how to complete the fingerprint card and to have watched the FBI video. No formal training is actually required, however, some training should be acquired to properly roll prints in order to reduce rejections. If you are in need of training, I can help. I have a presentation based on the FBI video. http://www.applicantfingerprintingservices.com or email at fingerprintguy@yahoo.com

Ok, DoubleActionCHL, I give up. I spoke to a female today, 10/03/08 at the CHL office and she was not aware of any letter requirement. She did however, indicate that some kind of training was reccommended and that your authority to collect fingerprints lies with your CHL instructor License. I am not a CHL instructor and I do not know your requirments, I am only aware of those required for private fingerprint agencies.
