Bingo!

Could not have said it any better! The politicians (both parties) are supposed to be our representatives - yet they no longer represent the people, they represent themselves and their parties. And...here we are bickering among ourselves...

There is every chance that the random processing may have nothing to do with DPS.

If two background checks are started and one is completed in two weeks and another takes a month, the difference in processing would not be because DPS is handling out of order.

Just speculation, of course........

It's not just in Austin. It's more widespread in Washington, D.C. Why do we have the economic mess we have today?

Okay..I didnt ask to be moved up in the line. I did explain that they are taking longer then the law allows and asking your rep to have the law enforced isnt cutting. Calling or emailing your disgust with the system isnt wrong. Furthermore, I highly doubt if your rep called you and said i can have your CHL tomorrow you would turn them down saying it wasnt morally right. It amazing the uproar the letter has caused in this forum.

Hey fellers...sorry to come off harsh. Maybe the wait is making me stir crazy. I don't feel the least bit of harshness toward you folks. I do stand behind my comments on the fairness of processing applications. It should be simple...I don't feel any application should get pulled up front because a politician calls and puts pressure on the DPS. Anyway...sorry if I offended anyone. :tiphat:

LOL...you give yourself way too much credit. It isn't your letter causing the uproar. You don't think your the only one...or even the first one...to use this tactic do you? Nope..it has been done and publicized here numerous times. The DPS even acknowledged it was becoming a problem. I just finally got bothered by it and your post happened to be the one I voiced my irritation on. Like i said...I have no problem with you or your letter to them. I have a problem with the DPS being forced to put others on hold to move a few ahead of us.

Lets not loose our heads in here fellas. I wasnt askin to be moved up, If it happens then im sorry. My main concern was that the DPS would slow my application because i applied under the 365 veteran fee exemption. I am also moving in a month, and am slightly afraid it will get lost in the USPS. Again, Sorry for the uproar. However, We all need to contact our reps past the 60 day law and let them know. They need to know that we are upset with the process, and that they need to fix it next session. I doubt my app got moved up, in fact it was probably shuffled back to the bottom..

Apology accepted. Everyone should complain when their application goes late. Don't let them get away with it.

In a way, I have a problem with anyone NOT reporting this issue to their representatives. If you have waited beyond the maximum time permitted by law, then by all means you should complain about it. You should let our government know that it's citizens expect the law to be upheld. Now, granted, I understand they are back-logged, and have had a surplus of applications, and I personally believe that is honestly the case at this present time. BUT, what's to say that in the future they may not use this excuse again and again. (If they got away with it the first time, who's going to stop them the second or third time)

The law is written the way it is written for a purpose. Many laws are written to protect the citizens from its government, which is what makes this country so great. I honestly believe the 2nd Amendment was written partly for this purpose as well. Us, the citizens of this country, need to stand up to our government more often, and hold it accountable for its actions. And if that means that our representatives need to hear from 2,000 of us complaining that our CHL licenses have taken longer than legally permitted to process, then so be it. I feel our representatives on the state AND federal level need to hear from their citizens more often.

I can understand the frustrations of many people who have been waiting 100+ days, when others have their license in hand in 60. Could the system be made more efficient? In this technological day in age, of course it could. But, if no one is complaining about the current system, what is the State's motivation to improve it?

Basically, as long as someone isn't calling their rep and saying "Hey, I'll vote for you again if you make sure I have my CHL by this weekend", but rather are calling and saying "I've been waiting on my CHL for over 80 days now. Is there anything that can be done to improve this system?" then I don't have a problem at all with that.

Hmm, this doesn't sounds like what you posted earlier. I quote
Well if he can get my application moved through quicker, I may actually vote for him... Even though it would be crossing party lines..

I interpret this pretty clearly that your intentions are to get you application done quicker, despite having others waiting longer than you (you've just barely eclipsed the 60 day limit). When they contacted you, did you tell them it was not your desire to get moved up to the front? Even now, you have the opportunity to call or email them and tell them it is not your intention to cut in line, but merely to highlight a delay and that you are not asking for special expedited treatment?
I'm over the 60 day period and decided to contact my state rep,if for no other reason to see if they would even return my email
and then after alot of pushback and criticism, we hear this
My main concern was that the DPS would slow my application because i applied under the 365 veteran fee exemption. I am also moving in a month, and am slightly afraid it will get lost in the USPS
What's wrong with calling DPS directly? I've called on a couple of occasions now when I had questions about questiosn on the application, and have ALWAYS gotten in touch with someone in 10 minutes or less. Why the need to get a State Rep involved if that was originally your desire? Couldn't you have asked them those questions just as good as your state representative? If I need to submit a change of address for my drivers license, I don't call up my Congressmans office and ask them to do it for me.

Will someone point me to the actual LAW that says processing should only take 60 days? As far as I know, the 60 day designation is only a GUIDELINE, and DPS is not legally held to that limit. Why do people keep saying it is a LAW ?

I think they're talking about 411.176
The scope of the record check and the investigation are at the sole discretion of the department, except that the director's designee shall complete the record check and investigation not later than the 60th day after the date the department receives the application materials.
