Welcome Working Man. I like the sound of that screen name. That is what my Daddy told me growing up. Son you work hard today & make'em a good hand. They will ask you to come back tomorrow. Sadly or nation has gone from there to "don't work too hard" in only 45 yr. Welcome aboard.

Very nice site. Good to see something specific for Texas. I recently purchased my first weapon, Glock 22, and have just completed my CHL class.

I do have a question on submitting my paperwork to DPS, but you can find that here... http://www.texasshooting.com/TexasCHL_F ... php?t=2057

Been a member for a little while at least, but just found this thread. 1TallTxn showed me this place, and I've since found it to be a great place to find information. One thing I really liked was reading through and finding references to real places that I know and go to, like Dallas and the like. I think there's a great community here.

Ah, on to the important stuff. Got myself a Baby Eagle .40 a few months ago, and am going to test for the CHL AnyDayNow(tm). Just lacking some shooting confidence and time :)

Hello From a new guy!

Post by jclif1995 »

I was invited to add my two cents after having a howdy email from Charles and another email from longtooth.
-
I am 45 years old, married for 14 years, have a son, 11, and a daughter 9.
-
I live in Allen Texas, a growing town north of Dallas in Collin County. I've lived in the Metroplex since 1988 and am a recent resident of Allen. I am originally from Lake Charles, Louisiana, which, I'm pleased to report, the family home survived Hurricane Rita with no damage to the dwelling.
-
I've worked 17 years in the insurance industry in the personal claims department but find my self unemployed after SF told me to find a new neighbor and my temp position dried up after the hurricane damage became workable by regular staff.
-
I'm currently attempting to retool without loosing my shirt and am not sure where I will land. I've applied at the Dallas Police Department but also am considering working toward a tech position, possibly in medical x-ray. I've not totally ruled out continuing in personal lines insurance claims but the big companies are not what I went to work for in 1988, but what is.
-
I enjoy handguns and am able to shoot them fairly well. I am not able to shoot a shotgun worth a flip, which, being from south Louisiana is a surprise, and yes I did my share of duck hunting. I'm better at a rifle but no longer hunt so I get no practice or incentive from rifles.
-
I do have my CCL and have carried it since the inception of the program here in Texas. I enjoy family, motorcycling when time allows, history programs and internet gun forums, reading, cooking, walking with my wife and kids.
-
I am currently introducing my son to pistols. He and I spent some time and about 200+ rounds of 22 long rifle down at the Bullet Trap in Plano. We used a Wather and thank god I had two clips because I could not load them fast enough. He had a time as did I and he really is a pretty good shot.
-
I currently own the following:
Springfield Armory XD-9 subcompact blue/black
Smith & Wesson M&P 40s&w service (commander size)
Smith & Wesson 1911PD Gunsite 45acp (commander size)
-
These guns are a pleasure to shoot and easy to carry. I find myself with the 9mm most of the time.
-
Holster selection includes:
Sparks VM-2 for the 1911
Rafters IWB for the XD-9
High Noon IWB for the XD-9
High Noon IWB for the M&P
-
My regular carry ammunition is the following:
Remington Golden Saber 230grain 45acp
Remington Golden Saber 180grain 40s&w
Remington Golden Saber 147grain 9mm
As you can tell, I lean toward the larger, meatier loads, not spending a lot of time on ballistics and/or statistics.
I've also appreciated Federal EFMJ reduced recoil in each of these calibers.
-
I've enjoyed introducing myself to the forum. I look forward to getting to know the group and sharing interests.

My name is Keith, and I live in Coppell (DFW area).

I have recently gotten back into shooting.

I got my CHL a few weeks ago, and am still getting used to carrying. Right now I mostly carry a Glock 19 OWB.

I am also a new member of the Dallas Pistol Club.

I am married with 2 children.
