Trap and Skeet in DFW?

#1

Post by Crossfire »

Where do y'all go to shoot trap and skeet in DFW area?

Elm Fork is underwater, Dallas Gun Club appears to be only for the rich and/or famous. Looking for an alternative to Alpine, which is a good ways away.

Any thoughts?

I imagine Alpine is one of the closer, better, trap/skeet ranges around. I live in Grand Prairie and shoot there when I find time.

Garland Public has a couple of slots way down to the left. Never used them though. Couldn't figure out how to cook the clay pigeons.

Quail Creek closed their trap/skeet range some time ago, it is now a practice range for LEO's. The have rifle and pistol ranges, and allow shotguns on the rifle range with slugs only.

No FMJ rifle. Only soft tip or hollow points.
They now have running water and indoor plumbing. Back in the late 90s all they had was an outhouse (which is still operational).
Yes, they are open 365. I have been there the last 2 Christmas days.

I was so confused when I read that, but then I noticed this thread is from last year. Yeah, every place was underwater last year when the lakes were at 35ft above normal. Wouldn't mind a little more rain this year though.

Elm Fork is above water - as of a couple of days ago - and has been doing a land office business.

Yes, we have been to Elm Fork SEVERAL times since I originally posted this. It is a fine facility, they are great folks there, and very willing to help out newbies.

Yeah, I like it there too. I've found the RO's on both the rifle and pistol side to be professional and friendly. I have yet to check out the shotgun range, but a friend of mine just bought a little Mossberg 20 gauge for his wife, and he want's me to take them to Elm Fork so she can learn how to shoot it.

Elm Fork is definitely the best place in the metroplex. you have to get out there early on the weekends and most of the time i call beforehand to make sure there isn't a tournament.
