Was made a couple weeks ago...

#1

Post by dukesean »

So, I was made a couple weeks ago when I stepped into a convenience store to buy a drink. As I was walking by the front counter to the fridges in the back, the clerk said to me, "Hey...what you doing man??" with his eyes looking back and forth between my hip@3:00 and my own eyes.

I just said, "Huh?" with a quizzical look and continued to the fridge, grabbed my bottled water, took it up to the counter, and paid for it. He never said anything while I was checking out. In the past I thought about my response to people who have "made" me, and I figured the best way to react was to make them think they're imagining things. Seems to have worked.

...That or maybe he just realized that if I was going to rob him, it would have been happening already.

I suppose that's better than running around shouting "Bees! Africanized Bees! Get 'em off they are stinging me! Oh gosh!"

I have been "made" a couple of times at church. No big deal because I'm known as the "gun guy" at my church anyway. My church is NOT an anti gun church. Once a year we have a church sponsored "range day". It is usually in the spring and is attended by men and women alike. It is always a lot of fun and occasionally a new person is introduced to the thrill of recreational shooting. Our pastor is a retired LtCol from the Marine Corps.

I haven't been made at church yet... ...that I know of. If I have, nobody cared enough to let me know.

We have a men's breakfast and skeet shooting competition - every quarter. We have several men that have their CHL. It's quite fun and we have actually gotten some newbies to come out again!

I am in the San Antonio area....

It's really awesome to have several men and women in our church who have a CHL! In fact I have three women friends who have recently passed the proficiency exam and class - they are waiting on their "plastic" now....

This is a great time to ask - how many others have some kind of firearm activity within the church that they go to?

We have nothing regular or official, although I and one of the guys in my Bible study are trying to organize a "range day" for high schoolers out at a member's ranch. So far, the official response has been mildly supportive, but we're kind of on our own to organize the whole thing.

Me too, Converse. While our church itself doesn't have a problem with CHL (at least no one I've talked to has been anti) the big church (United Methodist) is anti-gun, as far as to recommend all churches be 30.06 posted. And our insurance company (Church Mutual) has sent out a safety newsletter advising that if you have an armed response team it should be composed of LEOs only and no one else should be allow to carry. Yeah, right. Our general attendance is about 60 and the one LEO member we have works more Sundays than not.

We have a monthly men's breakfast. I think I'm going to suggest one be a range shoot, I'll bring the tacos.
