Holster for Ruger P95 and Bersa .380

#1

Post by FlynJay »

I need a little help finding a holster for my ruger P95(w/rail) and Bersa .380 Thunder(two separate holsters, just to be clear).
For the Ruger, I would like something that is comfortable and that I can use in local IDPA.
Probably IWB for the Bersa.
I am looking to spend less than $50 for each.

Can you guys give me some suggestions?

I am 5'9" - 250 lbs.

I don't think anything adding to my "thickness" in the belly area is a going to work.

I have a little overhang in the stomach area. So, a belly band would probably be uncomfortable for me. But the Bersa is not that big.

I've got a Bersa and I like the Bianchi Profefesional 100 holster. The #9 is supposed to be the correct size but I use the #10. The back high rise part will keep the gun from poking you. I bought mine at Carter's Country on sale for $39.

That's a good looking holster. I may have to make a trip to carter's country.

They are nice holsters, but I don't think they would be good for IPDA. The reason is that they tend to get flattened so it is very difficult to re-holster the gun. I have one and that is my only complaint.

They are a little more than your budget, but I would suggest looking at the Comp-Tac holsters. They are custom-molded to your particular gun. It's best to spend the extra money than have a holster in your dresser drawer that you don't use.

I do not shoot IPDA, so you ought to get some feedback from someone who does.

That holster is for the Bersa .380 which, to my knowledge, can not be used for IDPA. I don't think the .380 round could meet the power floor for IDPA.

I am looking for a good OWB holster for the ruger, which will be used in IDPA.

Again, I would suggest Comp-Tac. I have one of their paddle holsters that I am very pleased with.

Sorry, I misread your comment about the Bersa, but my advice still applies. It is hard to re-holster the Bianchi so practicing your draw is more difficult. I still use my Bianchi for my .380, but that's because I can't find another holster made for my gun.

BTW I purchased my Comp-Tac last year at the CHL Forum Day. I am not sure if they will be there this year, but if they are you can see a variety of their products. You might want to send them an email. Maybe they will even have one for your Ruger.

Thanks for the holster option. I picked up one from Carter's Country last weekend. You were right, I did not like the fit of the #9. The trigger guard interferes with the holster preventing the gun from going all the way in.
At what position do you find the most comfortable to carry?

Model 100's coming from the factory flatten out as there is nothing to keep them shaped. Normally, holding the new holster in your hand with the seamed edges between your thumb and the opposing fingers and squeezing will open the holster wide enough to fully seat the gun. Leave the gun in the holster overnight and you won't have any problems.

Please don't shop Bianchi holsters by "sizes" because those references are really "families" and don't directly refer to size. Code 1 fits J-Frames (small), 4 fits medium/large Taurus revolvers (not small) and up the list at 7 you're back down to Beretta 3032 (pretty small).

19226/19227 (09) are the listed fit for Bersa Thunder .380, Walther PPK and SIG P230/232 and I know from my own experience that they do fit and they fit well.

19230/19231 (10) are the recommended holsters for Colt Officers and CZ 75 Compact. I just don't see how that can be a decent fit for a Bersa.

The 09 did not fit because of the point on the trigger guard of the Bersa, it dug into the stich line. No amount of streching was going to cure that. I ended up getting the 10 because it was the one that had the best fit, while allowing the gun to fully seat in the holster such that the trigger was fully covered.
There is not a big difference in the size between the 09 and 10.
