I find this troubling.

This is a state law issue. The Georgia legislature and governor passed a preemption bill similar to what Texas and many other states already have. Any controversy over that bill must be worked out in state court.

I don't see any federal role.

Thing is, it's being really poorly reported. The judge didn't "uphold" anything. He simply denied a petition for a temporary injunction that the GeorgiaCarry.org lawyers had asked for to stop the firearms ban from being enforced while it's being sorted out in court.

Slightly misleading. The judge hasn't "ruled" anything, he's just denied injuctive relief pending his ruling.

U.S. District Judge Marvin Shoob expressed concern that allowing guns at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport could cause significant economic damage and could be a "serious threat to public safety and welfare."
A Jimmy Carter appointed judge. Illustrates the importance of judicial appointments and the lasting effect it can have.

This is a political statement based on no evidence whatsoever - another shameful moment for the federal judiciary, which is riddled with judges who make law rather than uphold it with relative impunity and cause serious damage to liberty in the process.

Very true - another sad reminder that a large portion of the country's political and judicial leadership is more interested in nullifying the constitution than upholding it as they were sworn to do. Liberty is in danger as never before.

So how are people to bring guns to check in for their flight? Or does this ban not include that?

From what I understand this is only a concealed carry issue. If I remember correctly, Georgia CCW holders could not carry in any place where a "Public Gathering" is held. The little dictators of the cities used that law to restrict more CCW than the state had intended. So the state corrected the law and the cities refused to comply so GA has these issues. This does not affect shipping of firearms in any way because they cannot stop "travel".

I agree this is the best reason to vote for a presidential candidate that will place the most conservative 2A friendly judges. McCain has promised to do so and since it will be either him or "the narcissist messiah" we have little choice in my view. We simply will not get every rights stealing attempt, by local tyrants, overturned because of these Fed. Judges and the SCOTUS simply cannot or will not cover every issue. We have another avenue in the 14th Amendment that needs to be heard so we can unquestionably correct the issue for good. It would be better for us if McCain is elected and is able to replace one or more Supreme Court Judges with a true Originalist who will properly consider and apply the law and not interject their own philosophy that will rob us of our rights. I like the D.C. decision but it needs to be strengthened and widened before we can go on the attack properly, to do away with the attempts of hostile state and local governments before they even get started.

That is my opinion.
