I just saw on Fox news that they have this same gang of thugs on tape ripping of a store for snacks and such, and they evidently robbed two other folks on the same evening out. Very bad sub-humans.

Very disturbing video. Hopefully, these animals will be caught in the near, rather than latter future. Especially before they hurt anyone else.

In the aftermath of Rita I carried a hoffner's quad pac. 4 - 10 rd Wilson combats, 8 rd in w/ another in the pipe. After the threat level decreased I just stuck w/ 2 extras. Yes some of the BG's today come to stay for the fight. Well, I hope I waste my time & energy for the rest of my life carrying 20 extra. But I will never run 9 at several BG's then be stuck w/ a $700.00 rock to throw.

Yes, that video is disturbing. A situation that can/should really make us think about what we would/should do.

I believe that would be a tough choice to make. Obviously the guy got up and walked away....not un-injured though. I can see some liberal jury saying "see, he's alive, why would you need to use deadly force?"

At what point in that video would you have drawn your weapon, if at all? Seriously, what would YOU have done? That thing could have escalated quickly with that band of idiots. They could have knifed or shot him at any point during that confrontation. But, how would you know?

Lets hear your thoughts on how you would have handled this yourself.

Excellent question sdmahr.

I was wondering exactly what I would have done myself.

First of all, the victim didn't seem to have any kinds of weapons or training for hand-to-hand fighting. So when in trouble, he followed the Bradys advice and called for help. Didn't work out so good for him.

First thing is to make sure you've got situational awareness. Try not to fix on one threat. There were multiples and one came up behind him and hit him in the head while he wasn't looking.

When things start looking bad, get the defensive spray in hand, and be mentally ready to draw and shoot your gun(s). Make a mental plan.

Fighting with one, they get sprayed. Fighting with a group that size, and with the fact that there were blows to the head... Looks like a deadly force encounter to me. But expect for a DF encounter like this one to go to court. Even so, being judged by 12 is better than carried by 6.

The tough part is not getting fixated on one threat, and mentally keeping pace with a rapid attack. Video shows how easily the victim was overwhelmed.

I've watched the tape several times now to see exactly what happened. Its fragmented as shown. It appears to me though that he was NOT in the proper "mode" as he was dialing the phone when he was cold-cocked by the first bandit/idiot. HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN WATCHING and he would have seen the gangster coming up to get him.

My suggestion would be in his situation to have taken a stance such that he was monitoring the situation CONTINUALLY in a 360 degree pattern the best he could. He never saw the first blow coming because he was messing with his darn phone ! (Sounds like the drivers down here) Anyway, I digress.....

IF he had been alert he could have drawn on the first thug that clocked him. What would have happened beyond that is anybodies guess. For him to draw after the first blow, (confusion/shock now full-on), I believe they would have retrieved the weapon and possibly killed him with it.

I believe that a proper shot on the first attacker, BEFORE being cold-cocked as he was approaching would have put an end to the situation. If not, after firing you MUST quickly re-evaluate the situation from all directions in the ready position in order to continue to eliminate potential/oncoming threats.

Now, would he have been justified in such action IF he would have done that? Rushing attacker, no visible weapon, assuming no verbal threats?

Comments? This is really interesting to me because it is a REAL-LIFE situation we could certainly encounter.
