Introducing myself
Howdy there fellow gunnies, as my first post, thought I would do the honorable thing and introduce myself. I live in Old East Dallas, am less than one month shy of my thirty-fifth birthday, am a bar manager, and lurking here amongst the posts have found some useful info. Look forward to participating, contributing, and continuing to learn in the process of joining a community already in progress. Happy trails to all involved.

Re: Introduce yourself
HI all!
I used to be a member of the forum as HOSSISFREE, but since the update and the fact that my old email address is extinct, I cannot renew my password.
I'm former Army, work for AT&T, live in Tomball, and finally carry the gun I had wanted for years! A Kimber Tactical Ultra. I also have the KelTec P3AT, and a H&K USP .45 full size (Not so easy to conceal, but it's what I started with). I've been carrying for over 3 years, and it's become a simple part of me. You get dressed, grab your wallet, watch, keys, knife (or knives), gun, and out the door. I read everything I can about carrying...from holsters to tactics, and try to assimilate it all. As I'm sure others here do.
I suppose I'm a bit of a rogue. As I have a love for both the 1911 style weapon, and the composite frame style weapon. So I like guns!
My handle here may be "MANINTOMBALL", but my friends call me Hoss!

Re: Introduce yourself
Welcome to the forum, TexasRedRock.
The Marines I have known would chastise you, because they would say there's no such thing as a "former Marine". Even though you now "belong" to another branch of service, you're still "once a Marine (always a Marine)".

Re: Introduce yourself
Think I will go ahead and introduce myself although I probably won't post enough to have many remember who I am.
I am 60 and live in Longview. Been a gun nut for about 56 of those years because I am the son of a former LEO and grew up with guns and loved them and shooting from the beginning. I am divorced and have three grown children with 7 grandkids and have been with my present company for 25 years; currently supervising three departments and about 45 people. Taking the CHL on the 19th and thought I could gater some good advice and pointers from this site. Looks like I made a wise choice. I will only post when there is something relevant I might add to a thread and hardly ever post just to up the count. Been on a few forums concerning motorcycles (my first love) and all posts probably go much over 100.
See you at the range

Re: Introduce yourself
Hey all,
I've been registered for a few weeks, and I have to tell you that this forum is incredible! So much information, so many people with a lot of wisdom to share.
I am a transplanted Kansan, being the only one in the family not from Texas...Dad was in the Air Force. I own a healthcare business, having spent 20 years with a big drug company, I thought it was time to strike out on my own. Live in Southlake, and no, I'm not rich, not a celebrity, I mow my own yard, and my kids don't have bmw's.
I've hunted since I was 6, been around firearms my whole life, and have a family that respects guns of all kinds. I told myself that it would be no use to continually check my CHL status, and to just be patient, and that worked for about the first day that I knew you could do that. The longer I wait, the more I check! I just wish the DPS site would remember my login info; I get tired of retyping it.
Took my class Aug 8, received my pin about the 18th, and I'm thinking like someone else said, maybe I ought to go ahead and apply for my renewal!
Thanks to all of you for sharing your thoughts and experiences; it really helps new guys like me.
Steve

Re: Introduce yourself
Welcome Steve,
I too am new to the forum, and also a transpant from Kansas. My dad was born in Texas, and I promised him if he is ever lucky enough to have a grandson, he will be born in Texas. I got to Texas just as fast as I could, just had to do a tour in Okinawa, a couple years in North Carolina, a year or so in Iraq, but I got to Texas and will be there forvever. Welcome to the forum, there really are great people here.

Work for a large hospital in Fort Worth, where I was also born. Really enjoy this board and look forward to constantly learning more from it and giving back to it as well. Currently use a Taurus 111 9mm. Going to take my CHL class this Sunday so I guess I can't wait for Jan-Feb of 2009!
Still have a lot of posts to catch up on re: law opinions and IWB choices out there.
God bless,
