OK. Deferred adjudication on a charge of unlawfully carrying weapons 13 years ago will not be a problem.

Good luck with your application. Just get the paperwork from the clerk of the court and send it with your application. That will avoid delay.

I'll be glad to give you a tour (which takes about five minutes). I did it today.

I can not fathom the time factor? How can you not get a Saturday or Sunday to take the class. If your days or so busy and scheduled already, just schedule a day to take the class. I had 2 small kids, one of who is disabled, and I managed to make time to take the class.

I voted other. The reason I haven't gotten a CHL is because DPS is too busy making sure they got my money, running background checks, looking for protective orders, looking for delinquent taxes, student loans, and child support payments, in multi-counties, or for any other reason possible to deny me my constitutional right. It's because my application is at the bottom of a stack of applications piled thousands and thousands high while we wait for them to do the same for other citizens ahead of us. Other than that, I'd have my gun on my hip right now.

I want to get my CHL but in 1991 I was given Deferred Adjudication for theft not with a weapon or anything I worked for a company and I was nerd.. stole a computer and was terminated. I did my probation with no problems. When I call the court to see what it actually was it shows as a felony but no conviction. When I called and talked to a Technician at the DPS she said the 10 year clause should apply here and I would not have a problem most likely. Today I am a Director of IT for a company and I own my own computer company. I wanted a CHL to have my gun on me while at my store mostly. It was 17 years ago and I no what I did was wrong. Should I write a letter with my application when I submit it and would the 10 year clause really apply here? Thanks for any info you can give me.
Thanks David

I have applied for mine now (which will hopefully arrive any day now)... but I didn't for the first two years living here because of money. Well... I was okay with the money, but the wife thought it was a waste and didn't want anything to do with me when I had a gun out, let alone if I carried one. Then there was a shooting at work/church... and her attitude completely changed... So I guess what I'm saying is I didn't get it because of my wife... but she used money as her main excuse.

I have one thing now that I have been to class... waste of time! Or poor instructors.

I had talked to two people who'd done the class and they'd said it was long and boreing. So I was prepared... but not as much as I could have been. We spent about 3hrs just doing silly things like finger prints and photos. Two people go, rest of us sit, two go rest sit. There was about 14 people total of which 10 were renewals. Once they went to do their shooting test we just sat and watched some silly "after school special" like video about a kid who got a gun. Then we were let go for lunch. The 4 of us filled out some forms, of which some did ahead of time so they sat. Our instructor even showed us stupid tazer or pepper spray videos on youtube, not that he had any in mind he was just surfing and found some. In all the "class" could have been 5hrs which would have included a more effective use of picture and finger print time, we'd have spent more time in the book going over things, more time with this situation would have got you in trouble, this one wouldn't have. We'd have take the shooting and written test and been done. I found a lot of the time was nothing but just sitting to fulfill some state 10hr quota regardless that the instructor didn't have anything to do.

Maybe I just got a bad one, maybe this is how most of the classes go but if the word gets out I can see why people wouldn't want to go.

+1. I took Crossfire's class and it was anything but boring and a waste of time. Interesting, informative and the day went by VERY quickly!

Sorry you got a bad one. I would recommend giving that feedback to the instructor, if you haven't already, so they can improve. :thumbs2:

When I did my class the first part was a bit slow and boring (was early in the morning afterall), but it quickly got interesting. I am sure it did help taking the class with several coworkers and family members, so I knew everyone in the class. My class was done in one day, which could have made things worse cramming it all in, but it didn't. Also a big plus was the instructor had the packets there, did finger printing and was a Notary! One stop shopping (only $50)!

I was just stupid and lazy, I've lived in TX for almost 9 years... I let my ND permit expire when I moved here... reciprocity didn't catch up for several yeas... and I just never got around to it. Buying my Beretta made me get off my butt! Now i'm in the queue.

The permits with reciprocity I have from out of state don't start expiring until 2012 :)
That, and I'm holding off until we can get the law requiring the collection of SSNs for licenses revoked. Whichever comes first.
