Questionable carry: Bagpipes, Austin

http://www.bagpipespub.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It has "pub" in the name yet I've been there and it's pretty much like a Chili's. I scanned every corner for a 51% sign to no avail but I did not see the "unlicensed posession...." sign that is usually around otherwise.

Anyone know about this place? Thoughts?

Edit: typo in subject

I think it should be illegal to carry bagpipes! And for men to wear skirts too!!
Well maybe it should be OK in AUSTIN.

There is nothing wrong with some well-played pipes. The problem is that few people here ever hear any well-played pipes. Around these parts they hear cats being strangled and are told its a good piper.

As far as the Bagpipes Pub, I can only say, if you don't feel like it's a 51% establishment, carry discreetly, and ask to see their liquor license. They're required to display it, and it'll give you the definitive answer.
Remember, in a life-or-death situation, when seconds count, the police are only minutes away.

I knew a bagpiper once, and he was in downtown Dallas with his pipes in the back seat of his car. He parked, and went into a store. He'd been in there about 30 minutes when he realized he'd forgotten to lock his car. He raced out and ran to his car and looked in the back...but it was too late.

Someone had left another set of bagpipes in the car! "rlol" "rlol" "rlol" "rlol" "rlol" "rlol" "rlol"

Seriously tho, I love bagpipe music.

It is said that the definition of the word "gentleman" is someone who knows how to play the bagpipes... and doesn't.

Sorry to stray from the OP, but that right there is funny! :clapping:

One of the tricky ways to check on a 51% limit is to use the TABC public inquiry system. It has one method to help you rule out a sign, though a lack of this means nothing.

In this case, it helps. The trick is to see if the location has an FB type permit. Bagpipes has one. This is a food and beverage certificate and it means that they get more than 51% sales from food. If they have an FB they can never have the 51% sign up legally.

The reason this is not a firm answer is that an FB is an optional certificate and not required. So not having it does not mean anything, but having it does.

OK guys, we are WAY off topic here. Please bring it back around to the original question to see if it is a 51% establishment or not.

Follow up: I went back there and inspected their licenses they conveniently have prominently posted next to the rest rooms. They have one of the mixed food & beverage deals so it seems clear.

[insert joke about playing bagpipes here]

Edit, to all: Yes the establishment is called bagpipes. Yes that is the name of an instrument. No, you references trying to link the two together in an attempt of humor is not very funny. If you're going for unoriginal then I guess you win. Otherwise you fail.
