Almost a disaster in Fort Worth

Every time something is fool proofed, someone comes along and builds a better fool.

I love that saying. I'll be borrowing it from time to time, with your permission.

Here's another one for your amusement and use with my blessings:

"It's not possible to make anything foolproof because fools are so ingenious."

They do incredibly stupid things that no rational person would think of in a million years.

Some years ago, I had a ferret who inspired the following: "Nothing is truly ferret proof to a sufficiently determined ferret." (she could climb the clothes in a closet to walk along the rungs of the hangars....)

Substitute "idiot" for "ferret" and I think it might work in this situation as well.

It proves that something like this could happen to anyone...Even one of us...And it has...

We are only as best as our own personal safety feature...

If there is any doubt to the status of a firearm...Just check it...Thats just been one of those compulsive things about me for years I suppose...

But to be brutally honest, with the increase in attendence to gunshows since the election, I have been a little more nervous attending myself, just because of this one thing...

I was at a Ft Worth gun show several years (6-8) and a vendor had not one but two NDs. He was escorted out in short order.

The guy set up next to him said he had pulled out his carry gun to show someone and put a round in the floor. Then about 2 seconds later put another within 6 inches of it.

See, he's consistent in pointing his gun in a safe direction....

You'd think someone like that would check it out of sheer reflex when he was handed the firearm in the first place.

Two weeks ago I was at a well known store looking at the XDm 9mm. The clerk handed me the gun and then realized that the trigger lock was missing, and went to retrieve one. I immediately pulled the slide and checked the chamber. The clerk said 'don't worry, it's not loaded' - which I found amazing. I replied 'I check every gun every time' which he then instantly realized was what he should have done as well.

Didn't buy it there.

Sounds like a business that should go out of business if that's their gun handling methodology, yes. If it's just that one employee, his circumstance should be evaluated.

My instinct is that it's limited to that employee who, for whatever reason, made a bonehead mistake during a busy Christmas shopping day.
