Good summer carry

I am looking for a good summer carry at this point. I am real to the fact that the CZ P-01 will be a little hot and heavy in the Texas summer, so looking for something a bit lighter. Preference is for 9mm for continuity sake and 7-10 round mag capacity. I have plenty of firearms in mind, but would like to hear some more suggestions from the board in case there is one I haven't given enough attention or even thought about. Some top contenders are Beretta PX4 Subcompact, S&W M&P, and maybe a Kahr. Whatever it is it would be riding in my M-TAC so thinner profiles help. Alright let er rip!

I carry a SA XD .45 service model at all times. Hot cold or whatever the weather. It is 13 +1 doublestack so its a decent sized piece. I have a Minotaur MTAC IWB holster and it works great. I wear both holster and gun with shorts and T-shirts if need be. I wear my cell phone on my belt, gun side and let my shirt "catch" on my cell phone holder so it bunches up over the gun. You cant tell that there is anything under the shirt. I dont wear big baggy shirts either. This is what I found works for me. I prefer to wear boots, jeans and flannel shirts. With this holster and gun combo I can tuck in my shirts into my pants around the gun and its still not noticeable.

I carry an XD9SC in an Uncle Mikes and it fits just right. I had a G26 and that was easily concealable as well. I would suggest either of these, or a Walther PPS. I have never shot a Kahr or Keltec but those seem like good candidates as well.

Not that it would be any lighter, but what about Charles Daly 1911s? I don't have the $$$ to buy a full blooded 1911 and I know these are imports, but as with the Norinco 1911s, thats not always a bad thing.

Since you mentioned 9mm, I will throw a plug for the Springfield Armory EMP. It's my wife's carry piece and she loves it. It is thin (exactly the same dimensions as other 3" 1911s) and holds (I believe) 9+1 rounds.

During the warm months I carry my Kimber Ultra CDP II using a IWB holster. I do this with shorts and a t-shirt and feel very comfortable.

1911's are not on the light side but with the proper holster and belt you won't know it's there. I often carry a Combat Commander all day and forget it's there.

If inexpensive 1911's are on your radar, look at the Springfield GI series or even the Rock Islands. This place usually has Rock Islands at reasonable prices. Of course you have to do the FFL transfer thing.

I carried a Kimber Stainless Ultra Carry II all summer and was quite comfortable with it. That being said, that little Walther PPS "Thin" looks quite intriguing for summer carry, and it is available in both 9mm and .40 S&W chamberings. If I were looking for a very concealable 9mm, I would give this one serious consideration.

If you want a good concealable gun, then I suggest the Bersa Ultra Compact 9. 13 rd. magazine and not that heavy. Can be purchased at the gun shows around $330 and very dependable. I have Sigs, Glocks, S&W and Rugers but I like carrying my Bersa better than all of them. My next favorite conceal gun is the Ruger SR9 with a UBG Striker I holster (http://www.ubgholsters.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;), the slim size of the Ruger and UBG holster, you forget that you even have it on you. Just one man's opinion.

I am thinking of getting one of the Walther PPS in 9mm. The slimness is very nice.

Kahr CW9 hands down. 7+1 9mm, lightweight, easily concealed, reliable, easy to maintain and affordable.

Keltec P11, 12+1 capacity. Not many lighter or smaller.

And keep a 15-rnd spare mag. Hard to beat 28 rounds, even if it's "only" 9mm

Actually, there are many lighter and smaller, including a Kel-Tec's own PF9. Among these small single-stack pistols are most Kahr pistols, Walther PPS, etc.

I agree, for 13 rounds of capacity (with a modified magazine), it's hard to beat the size of a P11. But a P11 is comparable in size to most subcompact double-stack 9mms such as a G26, M&P9C, Bersa, PT-111, etc. Seems like everybody has a double-stack 9mm with a chopped grip and 3" barrel and they are all right about the same size/weight as a P11. The difference in thickness between a P11 and a PF9/CW9/P9/PPS is very noticeable especially when you are carrying IWB.

I always liked the Dessert Eagle. If the sun gets real hot you can prop it up and sit in the shade.

On a serious note, the Keltec 380 loaded with good HP would be a great summer carry.

what kinda dessert can you make with an eagle? Last I checked it was illegal to kill them.
