Ammo price check

I was about to order some more range ammo this evening, but thought I’d ask for some opinions first. I have been buying factory reloaded 45acp from Georgia Arms in quantities of 500 at a time. Its 230gr FMJ and it works out at about $20 per 50 inc the shipping. Whilst I much prefer having a big box arrive on the doorstep to running around locally I wonder whether I’m doing well enough price wise to make this sensible as well as convenient? I know that the likes of blazer can be had cheaper, but I have been very happy with the quality of this stuff and it is pretty clean shooting. Of course the theory is that a bulk buy to the door should be cheaper than picking up the odd 50 off of the shelf but considering what I am getting is $200 for 500 good/reasonable/average/bad? I have no qualms about using reloaded over new, and again I'd like to think that I am making a worthwhile saving by choosing to do that. However if there is a better deal to be had then I'd appreciate a pointer as to where to look. Reloading myself, for now at least, is out of the question. Thanks folks

ps like most places Georgia Arms are currently behind on delivery, but thankfully I'm not in a big rush (I have been working about 300 rounds in advance). That said I can live with backordering right now if there is a place that I should look at.

$200 for 500 rounds is slightly more than Walmart's price for Remington UMC 230gr FMJ 250-round boxes, which was about $97 (including sales tax) some two or three weeks ago at the Seguin Walmart. I don't know about Winchester White Box, since they were out of that. Also, that doesn't count the large loss in karma one takes for entering a Walmart.

I bought a 100 each of WWB 9mm and .45 acp yesterday at the Wal-Mart in Lufkin. The 9mm was $19.97 and the .45 acp's were $29.97. That has been the price of the WWB at Wal-Mart for some time - when they had 'em. Sales tax was an additional $4.12.

How does that compare AFTER you add in shipping and handling?

I would definately stick with Wal-Mart as their Blazer Brass is $14.97+tax per box (total of just over $16) of 50 rounds. I have shot well over 1000 rounds of their .40, plus a couple hundred rounds of .45 with zero problems.

Thanks chaps, it would appear that I am currently doing myself a significant disservice. More $ for fewer reloads is quite clearly a long way from being a smart buy and so it looks like its back off to Walmart. Appreciated.

Wally World has .45 for sale for 84.97 per 250. And Blazer for around 16 or so. According to that you have been over paying just a bit, but that is also factory loaded ammo not reloaded. I am like you and could care less if it is reloaded or not as long as it shoots reliably. The UMC and Blazer have never given me any issues what so ever. I would check ammoman.com thearmory.com and a few other mail order places before ordering from Georgia again.

And then there's availability. I found one (1) box of Blazer Brass 45ACP at Wal-Mart and had to drive to Hugo Oklahoma to get it. It was $15.97 plus tax and $30 for diesel to get there and back. They had three boxes of WWB for $21.97 that I passed on.

All boils down to if you gotta have it now, you'll pay whatever it takes.
