30.06 @ Grapevine Mills Mall

Dont know if this has already been stated, but I was there today and noticed the sign outside by the doors. Im still waiting on my CHL to get here, but i still refused to spend any money there.

Question is, are all malls like that? never had to look, and that was the 1st mall I have been to since I applied for my CHL.

Dont know what it is, but when I saw the sign, i was like what the hell? and got all irritated all of a sudden. Guess that is normal. Just think its wrong to make the good guys with guns stay out and let the bad guys in.

Yep, if not here, I've seen it discussed on some other forums. In my normal routines, I've seen very few 30.06 signs in this area.

I live not too far from GV Mills - and pretty much have not seen much need to go there. Other's have mentioned that there are not necessarily signs at all entrance doors (like some of the anchor stores?). If I had to go there, it would be entering through one of those.

I haven't seen any 30.06 signs in Houston so far, but I've heard about some on this board. I think most places don't know they exist. Let's keep it that way.

Not all malls are that way - Surprisingly enough I haven't seen any of the malls in Austin posted.

From what I've seen all the "Mills" malls (ie Grapevine, Katy ect) have their outside direct entrances posted. THey're not posted very well/easily visable, but are correctly posted none the less.

None of the through-the-store entrances are posted *wink*

I don't make Malls much either...except for Christmas Shopping. Valley View Mall, LBJ @ Preston Road in Dallas is posted. I haven't been back since I saw the signs. However, Town East Mall in Mesquite is not posted.

Ya, im pretty much anti-mall. too many people, too many punks, and the damn parking...

As for entering a diffrent door that dosent have a 30.06 sign, im guessing that is a super bad idea. Personally, I dont plan on doing that. Not worth the risk.

Never seen any of those signs at Grapevine mills and I've carried there quite a few times. We always go in at Bath and Body Works since parking is a little easier. I doubt I'll run into trouble as long as I do my part, but I wonder what, if any, penalties there would be?

I think your biggest threat is the parking lot. If you enter through doors that aren't posted, I don't see where they can hold that against you (although I wouldn't want to be the test case). However, my dad always says, "No one's going to know your carrying unless you either take the thing out or tell them."
I'm curious as to how it would work out if you had to use the gun in the mall parking lot, having been in the mall through an unposted door. Technically, your legal in the parking lot. But would they prosecute you for having been in the mall with your gun just to make an example out of you?

Problem with "don't tell & no one will know" in a posted place is the rare occassion of accidental discovery. As careful as we are sometimes it happens. Three that I know of personally.
1. I had a store clerk touch me on the hardware as they said excuse me sirrrrr, uhhh was that what I think it was?
2. One of our own had his little son run to Dad in a business & when grabbing Dad by the leg at full throttle WHAP! Loud like little kids do, "Oh Daddy I hit my head on your gun! (for the new members, this was posted by Daddy so is not telling anything.)
3. A lady I know was wearing a snap western shirt as her cover, hung the tail of her shirt on the buggy while stepping to a shelf & flashed more than just a gun.
It happens in spite of care, alertness, & practice of keeping it shielded. Any of these in an improperly but simi-posted mall could have easily become the "test case." Only sure answer is shop somewhere else or don't carry it in. I shop elsewhere.

It was not your intention that the store clerk touched your weapon... you did not intentionally show the clerk, the clerk found it on their own by accidentally touching your person. I do not personally find fault in that. What was his response as you did not post what his response was.

Now, if you are in a 30.06, 51% or a federal; store, mall, bar, airport or any other restricted zone/area, then you're now trespassing, but if you're not in an otherwise restricted area, then no harm, no foul. The clerk might ask you to leave, and you would then have to else you're still ok. The intent was not there, you did not voluntarily show your weapon.

Kids can and will say anything anytime. Remember the old Art Linkletter show? I do, and they do. This was not the CHL holder's responsibility, even though it was his child that made the comment. Embarrassing? Yes! Illegal? No.

Most people would be looking at the anatomy on your third illustration... Satan dictates that. I'm sure that it was less than a second that she was totally uncovered and again, accidental, not intentional.

According to my CHL instructor, such "accidents" are just that and not intentional. He gave the illustration of an OWB holster and a "shooter's/hunter's" vest covering the gun.
He had it unbuttoned and made out like he was reaching; "On the top shelf for the 'Preparation H'!" and the gun being 'accidentally' exposed. He said this was not "INTENTIONAL" and therefore defensible.

He said also: "Button the lower button (or zip it up an inch or so) so such accidents won't happen."

IMHO, those who post a 30.06 sign are saying:

"Good law abiding citizens of our country, those of you who have passed a through background check, those of you who are not felons and have no dependency on drugs or alcohol dependencies, YOU are NOT welcome in our store, zone or area.

However, we welcome all of those people who do not have such high moral/ethical validations of their past.

And, criminals, you know that you won't be bothered when you come in here, because the law-abiding, gun-toting citizens are somewhere else."
