I quickly gave my wife a lecture about how important it is for her to carry every single time we leave the house.
So YOU forgot your weapon and promptly lectured YOUR WIFE? No wonder they love us so much! ;-)

Dave, If he were not really messing up bad, I would have had to say, Sir this is your lucky day, but it will never happen again.

It's not funny but I bet the look on your face was priceless when you reached for your holster and found no one home.
Getting out of the squad car...adjusting your belt...strong side nudge to butt of handgun....errr....wait there.... ouch...glad nothing happened on that one tx!!!

<raises hand...>

Also guilty of gun locked in the gun locker, and noticing about 20 minutes later. It's much easier to miss a gun in a duty rig than an IWB holster.

I learned to lock the car keys in with the gun (you take a key to the gunlocker with you when you lock the gun up). That way you won't leave without it. You wouldn't think it could happen to you, but it can and will!

Actually my department did not allow back up weapons at that time. I did have the shotty in the car though.

Ok this thread rocks. It says a lot about the measure of a man when he can admit stuff like this! I am honored to be in company like this! I am also glad I am not in law inforcement because I am sure I would have a few good ones by now! Reminds me of when G.Gordon Liddy had his radio show, he like to tell of bonehead moves he had pulled.... One mainly, watergate.

I am not laughing at you guys.... it is with you!

longtooth,

On that occassion, I didn't have that option.

We had to account for every ticket by number and I was patrolling a high frequency violation location (school zone) where there was a lot of public pressure to get traffic slowed down after a child had been hit.

On another occassion, a lady was very lucky though... we wore tailored riding britches with knee boots, and the day I stopped this lady, I just happened to be wearing one of my older pair of britches. As I got off my motorcycle, the whole ass end of my britches let go at the seam, leaving my tidy whities exposed to traffic coming up behind us. I just walked up to the car kinda sideways so my butt stayed to her car, leaned over and said "Maam, I just stopped you to give you a warning about your speed.... have a nice day !"
