Not yet. We still don't know what the House committee structure is going to be, who will be Chairmen of those committees, or where "our" bills are going to be sent. This is not the Austin and/or Texas Legislative Sessions of 2003, 2005 or 2007. Everyone will see this as the session grinds on.

There's no statutory deadline, but this needs to be done soon so the House can get to work. Between this intrigue in the House and the Senate somewhat in turmoil over the 2/3 rule, the 2009 Texas Legislative Session may see the biggest fights in years. Hopefully, I'll be proven wrong.

Charles, do you believe that there s any way to pass a "parking lot carry" bill without the employer reporting requirements that I have seen mentioned from time to time?

A bill to remove all the silly restrictions on where a CHL can legally carry is FAR more important than worrying about whether I have to show my license to a cop or open carry or delays in CHL processing. I would gladly put all those on hold to get the restrictions removed. What does it take to get this moving?

It is drafted but not yet filed. My guess is that it will be filed in the Senate first. We are in the fourth week of the session and the House still doesn't have committee assignment. It may happen by the end of this week, or perhaps as late as Monday. This is absurd! Last session 170 bills dies on the House Floor when time ran out. It could be worse this session.

As frustrating as this is - I am typically in favor of a government doing as little as possible. Although this isn't the way I would suggest doing it. They obviously aren't doing what we are paying them to do - how about we disband them completely and they have to give us all the money back?

Actually, I agree with this. The best session is when no bill that costs me money or freedom gets passed. But our bills are suffering too, so I guess I have to engage in a little hypocrisy and say a good session is one in which only our bills get passed.
