I understand where you are coming from Hoss, unfortunately there are a lot of people, some permit holder's,some not that should not be carrying. I was in a restaurant with my wife the other night and a guy was telling the hostess that she would be safe if there were a robbery because he was licensed and was carrying, I was waiting on him to pull his gun out and show it to her.hoss4570 wrote:I personally like the process we have to go through in Texas, that seems to "weed out" the ones who arn't really serious about guns and abiding by the law. Theres a lot of folk who I don't want carrying, permitted or not. Idiots who are permitted give the rest opf us a bad image.![]()

Maybe. But it's nowhere near the percentage of people, some US citizens, some not, that should not be voting.DEADEYE1964 wrote:I understand where you are coming from Hoss, unfortunately there are a lot of people, some permit holder's,some not that should not be carrying.
He's one of them I was talking about. I guess there are positives and negatives to open carry and everyone has an opinion, that is what makes it great.
My thoughts exactly.Aggie_engr wrote:I'm going to have to go with licensed open carry on this one. As stated before, it weeds out the people who are not serious about carrying firearms in line with the law. Keep in mind I'm not against open carry, if you want to carry, get licensed like the rest of us. I'll stay concealed.
This will never work - it's too simple and it makes sense. Sensible simple solutions don't make news nor do they get votes.cbunt1 wrote:How about a simple change from "Concealed Handgun License" to "Carry Handgun License" -- removing the whole "open vs. concealed" questions, along with all the gray areas associated with each.
From the Open-Carry aspect, some states will try to call it concealed carry when it's an IWB holster with no concealing garment. I've heard of states that try to call holstered carry "concealed" (Can't cite right now, but I'll try to find it and edit later).
Then there's the concealed issue -- questions about "Is printing failure to conceal" and so on. It seems to me that we run into a lot of gray area as to whether you're carrying concealed or carrying openly anyway....
From the 30.06 perspective, this change would benefit those businesses who would prefer not to have handguns on premises--no significant signage changes. I agree that we would see more businesses posting initially, but I can't help thinking that these posting businesses would eventually drop the signs once they discover we don't have blood running in the streets of the wild frontier of Texas.
I remember when CHL first came out, it seemed like every business in the D/FW area posted immediately. In fact, I didn't bother with CHL at that time because it seemed that I wouldn't be able to go anywhere with my pistol anyway. Now I hardly ever see 30.06 notices.
So let's just solve the whole danged problem. Issue a Carry license, and let the license holder decide whether he/she wants to carry concealed or open.
I know that's not a perfect solution for the Open Carry movement, but I think it's a good solution for all involved.
I figured that was the reasonOldgringo wrote:
