Worst States
What are the worst States/Cities to live in if you are a gun owner. I know that California is at the top of the list but what are some others. I guess I would also want to know what states currently have CHL's at this time.
Thanks! BSB

You left out Hawaii and New Jersey. I think Louisiana is fine as long as you are not in New Orleans.jbirds1210 wrote:I believe that Illinois, Wisconsin, California, New York, and Kansas top the list....at least from what I have read. Take care.

Edit to add: As of last year....Louisiana!

Actually, when I moved from NY stste to IL, I thought I had died and gone to (hand)gun heaven. In NY you must have political pull to get issued a Pistol Permit in order to buy a handgun, in IL all you have to have is a FOID.
Chicago and some of its suberbs, OTOH, are real havens of anti-gun nuts.

Bauerdj, I have conversed w/ a few hunters in the up state NY area & they have all said the same. There is some great hunting up there & really gun friendly folks in the country. Just don't go to the N-CITY.

its just NY City where the anti's live .
FOID= I beleive a Firearms owners ID card. its a card issued by the state that states that you are OK to own a gun.

A "Firearms Owner's ID" it is Illinois' permission card for one to purchase and possess firearms in IL.bauerdj wrote:What is a FOID? By the way NY is not as bad as most people think outside of the NYC metro area.

When I was in NY, for a lot of years, I bought and sold long guns without any problem, but with an unblemished record, an Honorable Discharge, police experience, and a long standing career, it was impossible to secure a "Pistol Permit" because I was not politically connected - same story for most others.
In IL all I had to do was get a FOID, which wasn't any harder than getting a CHL in TX, and I could buy handguns.

Sounds like you must have been in NYC. Gun laws for NYC are among the most restrictive in the nation. Nassau and Suffolk (and maybe Westchester) are pretty bad as well but nowhere near as bad as NYC. The rest of the state is actually not too bad at all. NYC actually goes as far as requiring a permit for a rifle or shotgun!

Nope, 150 miles north of NYC, which most upstaters consider to be a whole different state that should be divested.bauerdj wrote:Sounds like you must have been in NYC. I spent a couple of years as chairman of the "Albany County Pistol Defense Fund" which had an objective of getting judges to stop bench vetoing pistol permit apps by suing them. We had limited success.
Other than a few counties, if you did not have the right political connections you would not get a pistol permit.
