Other state CHLs

Charles, we talked about a Texas CHL being still good if you move to another state. Can you talk a little about that? I just read a post from a guy saying
his Texas CHL would not be good if he moved. Sounds like I may not be the only one with a question.

You can keep your Texas CHL if you move to another state. All you have to do is change your address. As cbr600 said, some states that recognize your Texas CHL now won't do so after your move. You'll just have to check to see which ones require the license to be from your home state.

Quick question, There is a possibility that I may have to move to California (ugh) in about a year. California, as you probably know, is a may-issue state at the discretion of the County Sheriff. If I move, I will be living in Los Angeles County, and apparently their Sheriff is not known to EVER issue a CHL unless you are Sylvester Stallone or Ben Affleck. I know that my Texas CHL is not valid in CA, but since CA does issue CHL's (although sporadically) can I keep my Texas CHL valid and use it when I am traveling out of the state of CA (especially back home to Texas)? Or can I only keep my Texas CHL if my state doesn't issue CHL's?

I am not Charles, but I can tell you that you can keep your Texas CHL for as long as you meet all the eligibility requirements. Being a Texas resident is no longer a requirement. It does not matter whether your state of residence issues a permit, or not.

When your CHL expires, you will be required to come to Texas to take a renewal class, if you wish to renew it.
