Well, I ended up with a Kimber UCII 9mm that went to Pops. I still need a personal 1911 in 3" though.

Check Gunbroker for Compact Rock Island 1911 in the low $400s. These are 3.5" barrels. I just checked - there's 2 in the $425 ballpark. Nice guns...very nice taking into account what you get for $400. Is a Rock Island a Kimbern - no. But it's a highly functional, service-grade weapon with outstanding company support & customer service.
I'm looking to sell one of my Kimber Ultras. It is a Crimson Carry and I've only shot about 20 rounds through it and I prefer the one without the laser. Originally bought it for the fiance but she didn't like the "fit" of it. It is a .45.
