Lets talk long guns.

I know that this is a site focused on the carrying of concealed handguns, but hey, let's face it, most of us just like guns. That includes the rifle.

What is your favorite rifle. How do you like to use your longarms? Are you a benchrest shooter? Do you like tactical rifles? Are you a hunter? Do you collect milsurps? Or, do you just like blasting.

I have a couple of milsurps, an AR and an AK. All of those are mainly for just having fun. There is a Marlin 336 on lay-a-way and even though some consider it a mortal sin I am working on a deal for a scope to go on top. It will be my first scoped gun for my first attemp at deer hunting in the fall.

I like the black rifles....they are scary looking I enjoy shooting in a local military rifle shoot. I usually finish about halfway in the pack...good enough for me! I have a nice time visiting. I am really considering picking up an old military rifle to shoot and study the history.

An afternoon with a Ruger 10-22 is hard to beat. Cheap and relaxing.

My first rifle, which I still own is a pre-64 Model 88 Winchester in .308. It is a fine rifle that knocks the heck out of a deer......but I have little interest in shooting it. It is tied to some wonderful childhood memories and that is about the extent of it.

To make a long story short.......I would much rather have my pistolas!

I have a RRA AR15. It is great from contact to 300+ yards. I am not a bullseye shooter by any stretch.

I am also fond of my M1 Carbine. It is light, easy to shoot, accurate and I love the history.

Rifles... hoo boy. They got me started into guns, which eventually culminated in my arrival here, with that little plastic card.

I'm an "old rifle nut." While I can appreciate, and enjoy (and indeed, own a few) a good modern rifle, I like the older guns, and loading for them. My favorite rifle is a toss-up between a Swiss K-31 and an ancient Remington Rolling Block. The Swiss is three times as old as I am, plus change; the Remington is double that, plus 16 years. Both rifles shoot as well today as the day they were made; indeed, the Swiss is near-target grade.

I'm currently considering a trade for an old Krag. I hear those rifles have some of the smoothest actions around. Yeah, it'll be one more caliber to load for, but after the Remington Rolling Block, it's no big deal.

I'm a bolt action rifle shooter. Makes it easier to pick up the brass. I shoot heavy barrel Savage 223, the same in 7mm-08 and a Steyr 308 at paper. I use a Savage light weigh 270 for 4 legged critters. Now I have not made any 700 yard kills with my Savages but I do find them to be fairly accurate.

Favorite rifle: Winchester 94 Ranger, in 30-30Win. I've also got a Remington 721 in 270Win and a Chinese SKS (which is lots of fun), along with a few shotguns. I'm no bullseye shooter by any stretch either, but really enjoy seeing how tight I can keep the groups. Don't get to hunt much, so that's about the only action by rifles see (I did however have my Win 94 close to me during the whole Hurricane Rita thing).

I've been tossing up a Mosin Nagant, or something of the like. Cheap, fun, and it's got a history. Short term wish list: Marlin 60 or Ruger 10/22, and home defense shotgun.

My favorite rifle is my Remington Sendero chambered in 25-06. I've worked up a pretty good load for it with a Nosler ballistic tip. It is hard to beat the old 10-22 for good, cheap fun though.

I just recently came over to the dark side, and acquired a DPMS AR, and I had a pretty good time with it the other day though.

Unfortunately, Backwoods Traps closed down so I need to find another range to go shoot now...Jeff, any chance you guys are expanding the indoor range to 100 yds during the renovation?

I'm a black rifle fan as well. I've got 2 of them. One has a big 50mm objective scope, A2 stock and is a nice bench shooter. I'm looking for a good bipod to put on to shoot prone for coyotes. My other is a 16" M4 clone that's got a Predator P4 free float rail and is set up more tactically. They're both a blast, and each serve their own purpose. I've also got a Ruger 10-22 that I could easily spend a weekend with all by itself. The Winchester 94 Trapper 30-30 and Ruger M77 MkII 30.06 get their work outs too, but not as often. Maybe I'll have to find a deer lease this year and try to change that!!

The long guns I own are mainly for hunting.

I have a Remington 700 in 7mm-08 that is an awesome rifle with a Leupold 4-12x40 VXII on top. Man is it pretty! I use it for hunting deer and when hunting hogs from a stand. When my brother and I are hunting hogs in the brush, I carry either my Mini-14 or Ruger Deerfield carbine (44mag). The 44mag is my favorite.

I also do a lot of duck and dove hunting. For that, my pride and joy is a Beretta A391 Xtrema. Its perfect because I can shoot 2 3/4" shells for dove hunting, or step to to 3" or 3 1/2" mags for duck and geese. While expensive, it was my best investment yet.

Oh yeah, and for varmint/ squirrel hunting, I have a Marlin 17HMR with a Nikon Prostaff scope on it. It is great for any small game and also for just plinking. However, the ammo is a considerably more expensive than the Ruger 10/22.

edit: Forgot to add that after spending time on this forum, you guys (and gals) have really sparked my interest in the black rifles. I want to get an AR, but I'm afraid that bug will bite me too!

Rifles are how I got started at 9 years old (22 single shot). Bagged my first deer at 10yo (Springfield 30-06). Hunted for years with it and a Remington .270.

As far as marksmanship goes. Give me a rifle, and I'll drop'em at 300yds no problem. Pistols, well, I'm working on the skill. Rifles...started at 9 and am now 33. Go figure.
