CHL, 21 y.o., wanted by Dallas PD - Fake cop!
The Dallas Morning News, front page, on Tuesday, 4/28/09 had the following:
Eric Caskey, 21 years old, a CHL holder, is now wanted by Dallas Police Dept.
on the following charges:
1. Impersonating a public servant. It's a 3rd degree felony worth up to
10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
2. Carrying his weapon openly. It's a Class A misdemeanor worth up to
1 year in jail and a $4,000 fine.
Mr. Caskey had a USMC police ID, allegedly was in the service with a Dallas
LEO, and claimed to be part of a special FBI team. He accompanied Dallas
police officers on calls for 2 weeks before a sergeant questioned his credentials,
then talked to Dallas detectives, who discovered that Caskey was not a real LEO.
The call that got the sergeant involved : Caskey accompanied a rookie female
Dallas officer to a North Dallas apt. where the caller said a known person was trying
to break into her apt. Permission was given to the Dallas officer to break down the
door. Caskey kicked the door in and entered the apartment with his Glock drawn.
Caskey drove his own car while posing as a fake LEO. Since the sergeant questioned
his credentials, Caskey has become a fugitive.
He drives a black Ford Crown Victoria with red and blue lights on the dashboard.
Texas license plate DN84L - which is kind of a head scratcher.
Why? Because if he has a 5 character Texas plate, then it will be a license plate
with a graphic on the left side, something like "Hunt Texas" or many other possibles.
If a guy was trying to equip his ride to look like a cop, why would he get a plate
like that?
He is considered armed and dangerous due to owning the Glock.

The article that I read says his name is Ryan Caskey. Here is what is on wfaa.com

It definitely will give the antis another reason to attack CHL holders. Just what we need!

Here's the Dallas Morning News article. No story has explicitly said police told the media Caskey had a CHL, but I suppose we have no reason to doubt it. Don't see any corroboration that he was in the Marines, either, just that had an MP badge.

This makes us look like a credible bunch. How in the world does someone think they can get away with something like that. If this guy indeed has a CHL, wait until the national gun haters media gets a hold of this. More bullets for the liberal's.

Re: CHL, 21 y.o., wanted by Dallas PD - Fake cop!
Look at it this way: The guy was just a cop wannabe. He didn't hurt anyone. The cops are embarrassed because he got away with it for two weeks, and they have good reason to be embarrassed.
Whether or not he has a CHL is irrelevant. A 14-year-old kid in Chicago pulled a similar stunt, and he certainly didn't have a CHL.
P.S.: I think the case for impersonating an officer might be slim. He didn't do it for gain or a criminal purpose such as robbery or kidnapping, which is the usual reason for such offenses.

Jim, you think it is irrelevant that he has a CHL ? If I was a liberal gun hater like 90% of the media is, I would use this as proof that whacko's can get throught the background checks and indeed get their license. Do you think this guy is stable ? Things like this cannot be good for our cause so I think it is very relevant.seamusTX wrote:Look at it this way: The guy was just a cop wannabe. He didn't hurt anyone. Instead of catcing the swine flu bug...Looks like he caught the woo-woo bug...
A black Crown Vic with wig wags lights is a tell tale sign that he is in the forth stage of that affliction...
On a serious note...This could grow into something we do not want to see if he is bold enough to equip himself like this and interact directly with "real" Law Enforcement...
When they do catch him, it is a foregone conclusion that his CHL will go bye bye...

The guy got to age 21 without committing a crime, being adjudicated mentally ill, or any of the other stuff that makes a person ineligible for a CHL. He is intelligent enough to pull this stunt for two weeks. He is also tall, trim, and clean-cut. He probably could have been hired by a police force if he had applied.DEADEYE1964 wrote:Jim, you think it is irrelevant that he has a CHL ? There is no qualification or profession that guarantees infallibility. Doctors, lawyers, ministers, police officers, teachers, and judges have committed every conceivable crime and perversion. No one can read minds and know what kind of evil or weird things a person can do in the future.
That's why I say that having a CHL is as irrelevant to this case as whether this guy is a Methodist or a Mason.
Will someone use the fact as an argument against CHL? Probably. They use every other irrelevant and illogical argument.
I don't think this guy is insane. He probably has some kind of obsessive-compulsive disorder.
I knew a guy like that when I was in my 20s. He was a volunteer fireman and certified EMS tech. He had bought a used police car and rigged it up with flashing red and blue headlights. He also had a used badge that he had bought somewhere (this was before eBay). He ended up being charged with impersonating an officer, but as far as I know he had no evil intentions and never harmed anyone.

It is astounding that he fooled DPD to start with. Even in po-dunk Greenville we called the current/previous agency and verified before we accepted 'ride-alongs', regardless of what ID cards and badges someone provided.
And when I went and rode with DPD Air One they did the same back in the early 90s. Even after I got to know the copter jockeys and rode several times they still verified I was still employed with Greenville PD each time I showed up.
Somebody screwed up big time.

I guess the difference is that no one is trying to ban Doctors or the practice or medicine. If they were, they would hold up every mistake they make as evidence that the practice of medicine should be outlawed.seamusTX wrote: There is no qualification or profession that guarantees infallibility. So, the fact that he is a CHL is important as that's the argument that will be presented to the general public.
