It may be a good idea to speak to an attorney first.

I look at it this way. Agencies don't use email to contact anyone concerning an investigation or field audit. It almost smells like a scam, except that the English is better than that of a 419er. If they were able to acquire your email address and some identifiers on who you are through legal law enforcement means, then it probably would not take much more effort to actually find your address and phone number.

You could call the SA office to confirm that there is such an agent there.

IANAL.

He already called him and talked to him at the number that was provided and googled to confirm that it was in fact ATF.

Tell him to pack sand. I wouldn't respond to anything less than a summons. Then it would be with an attorney present.

Um... I don't have any disagreement with what I think the sentiment is, but I am curious what a "publican" is. I know the "keeper of a public house" meaning, but I don't think that's what you meant.

Publicans were tax collectors who worked for the Roman government. They collected taxes from their own countrymen (after Rome had conquered a country), and were allowed to take 'a little extra' for themselves. Needless to say, they were rather despised.

KCAV5 beat me to it, but they were rightfully despised turncoats of their society. The sellouts of of their people. In fairness though Jesus said even they could salvaged. I consider them even lower than a Socialist Congressman. YMMV.

I don't know if the expression, "pack sand" would be a good idea. Though, I will admit that the dark side of me appreciates the sentiment. :evil2:

If any further interaction is made, it should be made more politely. And preferably through an attorney.

If they're looking to frame somebody then being uncooperative might make you a target.

The really bad guys might be the ATF. Just talking to them could get one tossed into prison. The Drug Runners aren't half as dangerous as these guys are. The real solution to the problem they claim they are addressing is to arm the citizens of Mexico and to disband the BATFE. They are publicans who wish to disarm us and perform no useful purpose.

We must recognize the enemy, and its critical we don't offer support.
:iagree: It is a shame that we are living in a time where we can not trust anybody. We are losing our freedom and those in high places have chosen to ignore the Constitution and would like nothing better than to disarm the citizens of America.

Well to be fair, There are people I still trust, and I don't know if there was ever a government worth trust. There are certain aspects of our government that is trustworthy of certain things. I trust the mail service to be fairly reliable in delivering our mail. My city takes excellent care of my garbage. The Federal LEO system has a history of not being trustworthy and there is no reason for the BATFs existence. They are politically motivated, and the folks in charge don't seem to like gun owners very much.

saying the wrong thing to an agent, even while trying to be helpful, could also make you a target. Just my opinion, and is probably worth exactly what you paid for it. :tiphat:

You are absolutely right, Liberty. there is no reason for the BATF's existence. There is nothing they do that the FBI couldn't do better and more professionally.
