Clear Creek Gun Range Opinions

#1

Post by agbullet2k1 »

I was wondering if anyone has been to Clear Creek Gun Range in League City. I have seen varying opinions around the internet, and the only thread on this forum I could find was about the attempted land grab the city was trying to pull. I’m trying to find out if the range is a good place to take a new shooter (handgun mostly, some rifle), because it is only about 10 minutes from where I live. Mainly, are the negative reviews online true, or just plants by the city and developers?

Texas City gun range is worth the drive over Clear Creek gun range for a public range. Far to many stray holes in things other than targets for me and as you have probably seen on other forums the "Hosts" are not very nice.

agbullet the guy at clear creek can be a real bear to deal with, he is about the most cantankerous "gentleman" I have ever dealt with. The big advantage of clear creek is the longer rifle distance than texas city.

I live a stones throw from Clear Creek range (south shore) and go shooting there every few months. I was just out there last weekend and didn't have any problems. In fact, in the middle of the day on a Saturday there were only two other shooters on the pistol range. The lady running the place was very nice and called a cease fire immediately so I could hang my targets.

I've seen the negative reviews online, but I haven't had a negative experience there myself. All in all, for the location and the price (one shooter and two guns is $15) it works. It's not the nicest place but it gets the job done. I do know that the local developers have been trying to get the land. They are building houses all around that land and I'm sure they're concerned about being able to move those houses with all the noise. A guy I work with is a member over at PSC, and I've heard good things about their range.

I was thinking about taking the CHL class there in the next couple of weeks (doing research on it is how I found this forum), but after seeing all the state CHL processing problems I may wait unit DPS gets their glitches worked out. I'm not all that patient and having to wait 90 to 120 days for the license would really frustrate me.

I had also heard bad reviews from people I know who have gone here, but there was one person whos opinon I really trusted and he loved it because he felt safer there than anywhere else around. I agree its not the prettiest place to shoot but its not as bad as others were saying. Id go back just because its right down the road from me but TXC Gun range was a really good experience too, Id go back to both.

I have experienced many feelings while shooting at the Clear Creek Gun Range.....safe was NEVER one of them. I rank it slightly below the 59 gun range, which is likely similar to Beirut.

I would rather not shoot than listen to the gentleman at clear creek.

I live just down the road from the Clear Creek gun range and have nothing nice to say about the couple who run it. The words bi-polar and little man syndrome come to mind when I bit my tongue to keep from saying anything rude out loud. Four years ago I used them for my CHL renewal class and that was my final trip there, rather then say anything else unkind let me just say other people offer that class. PSC is a great place to have a membership, I go as often as I can.

I moved up here from Galveston and am now 3 min. from that range. I can hear rounds popping off no matter which way the wind is blowing. i also saw an arrticle in the paper about them closing it down due to residential neihborhoods being built around it. I went there to see what it was like and came away with a sour taste in my mouth after speaking with the owner, Napolean complex big time. For my money PSC range is the way to go. I reload for quite afew different riles and pistols and it would cost me $6000 a year to shoot there. I'll drive the 20 min. to PSC other than the 2 min. to that range.

Not that it matters but he is not the owner, he is just the renter! If he ever leaves and is replaced by someone with manners I will consider going back.

Many years ago this used to be a great place to go shoot, i can not say that now, my friend and I have never been treated with such disrespect at any establishment in my life, to say the gentelman that was in charge was a sycopath, would be too nice. Drive to Texas City, clean and very well run

I'm Living down the road from Clear Creek and drive right past it on the way to the Texas City Range. I really should join one of the local ranges, but the truth is the application process is just a little to complex me. Not a joiner I guess!
Texas City though is pretty friendly and safe.

CCGR was my range of choice until recently.

Too much riff raff allowed to shoot there unsupervised, the last time my wife and i went we took my mother-in-law and we had to leave because of the unsafe manner many of the shooters were acting on the pistol range.

I have never been to the Texas City Range, where is it and do they have a skeet/trap range?
