I have a CHL. Will I be able to carry this swat pistol in my truck without problems from the law? Isn't it considered a semi-automatic pistol?

Thanks for any help

IANAL, but SIG lists it on their website as a rifle, not a handgun. Texas issues CHL (Concealed Handgun Licenses), so IMO, if it isn't a handgun then it would not be legal to carry concealed. However, you should be able to carry it per the long-gun laws.

If you are talking about this:

http://www.sigsauer.com/Products/ShowCa ... ductid=240" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Then, as far as I can tell, yes, it is a handgun, and you can concealed carry it legally.

If you can purchase it without a Tax Stamp, that means it is registered as a Handgun, since it has less then the required 16" Barrel for long guns. Also, the fact that it does not have a stock would classify it as a pistol, and not a SBR.

It's in the same category as the Pistol AR's, which could also be carried concealed legally.

If it's a pistol and your license is SA you can carry it concealed. If it's a rifle you don't need a license to carry it concealed.

The Sig 556 Swat comes as either a carbine or a pistol model. They are two different models.

I just looked again at Sig's site and see they list it under the pistols also, so my bad. The question is, what defines a handgun in Texas?? Is there any clear definition in the law? Charles? Bueller? Anyone??

PC 46.01. DEFINITIONS. In this Chapter:
(3) "Firearm means any device designed, made, or adapted to expel a projectile through a barrel by using the energy generated by an explosion or burning substance or any device readily convertible to that use....
(5) "Handgun" means any firearm that is designed. made, or adapted to be fired with one hand.
IMHO, you can carry this SIG weapon on the same terms as any other handgun, and the cops can hassle you on the same terms they always use.

Kel-Tec has a similar weapon which I have fired. It takes a stronger hand than mine to hold it and fire accurately with one hand, but it can be done.

IANAL, etc.
