I am really enjoying my Yildiz O/U from academy. $400.

Beretta 391 (or equivalent series) if you want a semi. They can be found on the used rack well within your price range... for that matter there are often some lightly used Benelli's in the upper end of that price range as well. I prefer the "three shot advantage" shooting pairs, but I also take my mulligan (s) at the golf course too I shot double guns for awhile, but as much as I tried, I could never get the feel for them

I've used my Mossberg 500 pump for clays. It's more challenging doing true doubles while having to manually cycle between shots. One time I even managed to hit both clays at the last station during Skeet, so it's doable.

A Stoeger Model 2000 is a semi auto in that price range, also. It is part of the Bennelli group with the same inertia system. I've used mine for clays, pheasant, quail and dove for the last 5 or 6 years and paid 1/2 what my brothers paid for their Bennelli's.

I have to agree with another poster. My Remington 870 pump is quite a challenge on a sporting clays course, but it is very affordable.

I would say get a gun that fits you and use it. I am a relative novice at Skeet (only been 3 or 4 times now), but I've taken my EBS (HD Shotgun) the past couple of times and done pretty decent. Last round I shot, I scored 13 (out of 25) shooting doubles - not bad for a newbie and an unchoked 18" barrel.

I'm going this weekend again, this time with my new Stoeger Condor O/U. If my experience this past week using it for bird hunting is any indication, It's going to be a great skeet shooter. Since your budget is a little higher than mine, you may want to go with the Supereme model, which MSRPs for $600 and features a nicer trigger and selective trigger mechanism, as well as auto-ejectors and a nicer stock and finish.

They're readily available, and are quite nice, especially for the price.
