I was told by a salesman in Academy (from which my wife has banned me now  ) that 380 should start making a special guest appearance at a store near you by the middle to end of August. I assumed he meant 2009 but I am not sure.

I can get steel 380 pretty easily in fact I bought 50 rounds this last Wednesday on the way to church. :fire

man , i think there should be a new thread devoted to finding .380

instead of "ammo on sale"...it should be ".380 on sale "

I ordered 380 ammo from Cabella's on July 28, and the backorder slip now says it should be shipped in 0-1 weeks. I'm getting excited.

I hope you get your Cabelas order, but don't hold your breath. My order from April counted down each week from 5 - 6, 4 - 5, etc., until it reached 0 - 1. Then it reset to 12 - 13.

I made it a habit of calling the three Wal-Marts within a reasonable distace from my house on a daily basis. Best time is between 7:30 am and 8:00 am. This went on for at least six weeks. Never any .380.

Two weeks ago I called one to inquire on some .222, and the lady recognized my voice. Wanted to know why I was not asking about .380 as I usually did. I told her I was about to give up. She told me she had just gotten in 4 cases, and how many boxed did I want. I told her FOUR, and she told me she would hold them for about two hours for me. I made it in about 30 minutes. The boxes I wanted were under the counter, and there were about 15 boxes on the regular shelf.

I was happy to get 400 rounds, and did not purchase any additional. Why be a pig. Maybe it is starting to loosen up.

If you have an Academy local to you try them at around 10AM-noon on Friday's. I know they get shipments in on Fridays and the last two times I have been in they were fully stocked with many different calibers and brands. By 5PM the same day the shelf was getting empty.

Great suggestion Mike. Take it one step further by calling them at 8:30am(they open at 9), and ask if they have the ammo in stock you are looking for. Calling them at that time, is when they actually HAVE the time to visit with you. That way, you can get there before the door opens, and have a chance of getting what you need.

Academy must vary from location to location. The Academy in Mesquite told me to check on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. He said they get .380 about once or twice a month and it doesn't last long.

I talked to the Manager of the local WalMart. He said they never know if they are going to get ammo until it shows up on the truck at night. Once is unloaded its placed in their security room until 7am when the day Sporting Goods person comes in and stocks it. The day talked to him, they received four 50 round boxes of 9mm - that's it! Four boxes. He said it ranges from a few boxes at a time on up to larger quantites.
