Default on College Payments

#1

Post by Bird of Prey »

First off, I am NOT delinquent because my wife found the receipts showing payment in full. I'll be paying a visit to the university next week. Here's the problem, I'm sending off my CHL packet in about a week and I'm wondering if things will be cleared up by the time the state starts checking for any delinquent payments. Plus, it wasn't a loan. It's just regular tuition fees that are showing with the big 3 creditors. Does that count?

As it stands today, right now(as you well know) defaulted student loans are grounds for denial of license.

But with the new law coming on board Sept.1, that portion of the law has been amended. As of 09/01/2009 student loans in default are not grounds for denial for a license. Just something to think about.

Bad credit is not grounds for CHL denial, unless you owe money to the state of Texas. And after Sept 1, 2009, that will only include taxes and child support - not Texas guaranteed student loans.

If your loan does not fall into any either of those categories, then you are good to go.

+1. I was going to say that as long as this "loan" doesn't fall under the auspices of the Texas Guaranteed Student Loan Corporation, then it should not raise any flags when your application is processing.

I was checking my paper work and it turns out that it was an emergency loan from the University of Texas Pan American. I never received anything in the mail saying I owed it. I found out because I was trying to get a loan and it came up on my record. So the wife and I started going through our files and found a receipt showing the exact same amount and was stamped "Paid in full"! We just never got around to going to the university to have things cleared up.

So if the restrictions are changing on 9-1-09 will it go off the date I submit or the date that they start processing? So that way I know if I should just wait another couple of weeks to send the packet off.
