Hmm, this must be talk about CHL at church week, ha ha!!! I talked with our Senior Pastor this past Sunday after service about guns, CHL's etc. We are looking to go Skeet shooting in a few weeks with another pastor (http://www.gracelife.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) that is getting back from an overseas mission trip.

I run the audio/video in the service and as I was walking out of the booth after service the pastor came up and we started chatting about my facebook page and laughed about how it has a primary theme about safety and guns. We talked about security and the unfortunate incident with the Illinois pastor a few months ago and how we really need to be security minded. He asked me more about guns and different types and as we were talking, CHL's came up (which for some reason always come up in my conversations ).

After some more discussion, he asked if I had a gun on me, and I replied that I did. He was totally fascinated by it and mentioned that he had shot a gun a few times. He did say that he was a little concerned with guns, but I reemphasized the Illinois shooting and that only bad guys will not obey gun laws. Guns are perfectly safe and they are used to protect my family. I also mentioned that all of the pastors on "the board" seem to all have CHL's. This comment appeared to really win him over. I could appreciate his apprehension because most people think that a church is a safe haven, almost more so than their own homes.

I told him what I have and where it is on me and we talked about CHL's and how the video booth would be a good sniper location. I joked that from now on he knows that I better like his sermons "or else"

All in all though, it was a great conversation and I am a bit relieved because he "OK'd" it AND he is going to see about better security at church (I did remind him that no one will know that people are carrying if he is worried that some might be nervous reminding him that for the last 8 months I have carried every sunday and no one was the wiser). Nothing I wear "screams gun".

I seriously doubt any of you would be able to tell I am carrying. I think this is mostly because I just don't look the type.

Why don't you look like the "type"?

Do you look like a convicted felon or somebody that has been diagnosed with a mental illness? Those are the "types" that cannot legally carry, so if you don't look like one of those, then you must look like the "type" that can.




Of course the bad guy type is more easily recognizable in some cases, but bad guys can just as easily look like good guys. Best be suspicious of everybody.

The three policemen who threw me out of a restaurant last Friday night never noticed that I was carrying a P239 as well as a BUG. And since they never asked, I really didn't have any reason to tell them. I was also carrying a Cold Steel city stick, but since that's just a cane they didn't comment on that either, even though it became obvious I wasn't using it as a walking aid.

K3 is Kydex. The leather version is the "#4". FWIW I think I am going to order a leather snap-loop to replace the ill-fitting J-hook on my K3 (drill out the rivets and put in Chicago screws).

Ok, sounds like we're not talking about the same holster. The #3 I have has a clip, not a j-hook. #3 is leather, #3K is kydex. Deep cover holster, IWB, entire thing hangs below the waistband. I use this because I wear a polo and khakis.

Andrew, I'd love to post the full story about 3 policemen making me leave the restaurant. I was attending a talk by former Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney. I'm hesitant to post it because of political overtones and I don't want to violate forum policy.

Let's just say that McKinney's sponsors recognized me and they were afraid that I may ask some questions that would enable McKinney to out herself for her true character. The moderator's opening remarks were, "We welcome all comers in a non-sectarian atmosphere of equality, dignity, freedom and inclusive of all." Except I wasn't included in the 'all'. Rather than ask me directly to leave the room, they filed a false police report that I was disturbing the peace (I never said a word and was just sitting at a table sipping on a glass of water.) I have no issue with the police who were courteous, professional and were just doing what they thought was their job. You should have seen their faces when I reminded them that McKinney assaulted a U.S. Capitol policeman who was assigned to protect her.

The walking stick is an unappreciated front line of personal protection. It can provide clear indication to a potential adversary that their bad intent may encounter a layer of hindrance. It's also something you take virtually anywhere with you, including on airplanes when traveling to unfamiliar areas or locales.

So, ladies and gentlemen, you don't have to "dress around the gun" in order to effectively conceal. I wear jeans that fit, shirts that are not at all baggy or loose, and a regular "non-gun" belt. No vests, no fanny packs, no cover garment. Nothing special. Just a $40 kydex holster and a compact pistol. Even people who have very regular contact with me over an extended period of time don't know. My wife has to ask most of the time. Don't believe the hype.

Do you wear your shirt tucked in or out? I find that the only time I really have difficulty with concealment is with jeans and a tucked in shirt. With a shirt out, it's clear sailing. With it tucked neatly (aka tightly), it's tough, and I go to the belly band for good concealment, which comes with a slight disadvantage with regards to accessibility.
