Hello Charles, Senior Moderators, et. al. Texans
I joined TCHL the 14th of Aug. I am an Active Duty Sailor (Navy Chief!) Joined in 1990 in San Antonio.

I will be taking my CHL license the 29th in Burnet, and taking my package to Austin so it can be looked over to ensure all the "t's" are crossed and "i's" are dotted. Being in the Navy you learn to hand carry whatever is important to you, to make sure the right person gets it. (paranoid? - naah! just old and have experience.) What is the normal time from submittal of package to receiving license these days?

I have thoroughly enjoyed the forum(s) so far, I have learned a bit about CHL do's and dont's, wishes and wants or needs. I even have placed TCHL on my bookmark tab for ready access!

If you check out the Waiting Room section you can see what some of the pathetic wait times are. The county doing the back ground checks seem to be a major factor in the lenth of time. My renewal took about 85 working days and I'm in Denton Co. just north of Dallas.

There's a wealth of information here and a wonderful group of guys & gals to visit with. You'll find that you have much in common with people here. I can honestly say, here is where friends are made.

We have several service men and women, and ex-service men and women here on the forum.

As far as class-to-license goes, it varies from 4 months to some as long as 6 or 7 months. This past year has been a force 5 hurricane for the DPS CHL licensing unit. They had over 15,000 applicants in the month of March alone. They are overwhelmed with applications. But as I say that, things are getting a little better. A 4 to 5 month wait is getting more common...although there are rare exceptions, with both shorter AND longer wait times. So come on in, kick off your shoes and join us waiting.

Hey folks!

New guy from Round Rock here. Originally from one of the most firearm restrictive states in the U.S., which is NY (upstate).

Glad to be in Texas... as the saying goes, "I wasn't born here, but I got here as fast as I could."

Currently filling out the CHL application. I've taken the class already.

My fiance' and I have a Smith and Wesson Sigma 9mm (don't laugh, it is my first handgun), a 38. Special, and a Walther P22 (my plinker).

Glad to be here and picking all your very knowledgeable brains. Thanks for making this great forum available.

Hi ronzorelli and welcome to the forum! Glad to have you with us! And glad you and wife are down where your 2A rights are respected.

There is a wealth of information for you regarding CHL and guns in general. Read all you can on the forum before your class. You'll be glad you did, and you'll have an easy time in the class.

And nothing wrong with your handgun at all. I'd suggest going to the range and practice with it before you take your class.

I already took the class (mentioned that in the first post ). I passed the range test with flying colors.

After using my own P22 and my friends Ruger .45 I noticed my Sigma is a bit shaky in the accuracy department. I'm looking to upgrade sometime in the near future, but thinking about going bigger for my concealed weapon. I'll post a thread looking for input about the handguns I'm considering a little later.
