Went to the State Fair last year with the wife and kids. Presented my CHL and drivers license to the security guard before being scanned. He looked over both licenses and waived me in, no scan, no problem through the metal detector. Didn't even break the pace of the moving line.

I went with my wife last year. Simply showed my CHL to the guy wanding folks, he turned the wand off,
passed it over me quickly, and quietly told me to tell the officer (who was sitting in his car due to a light rain drizzle).
I gave my CHL to the Leo, he shrugged and said "OK", gave me back my CHL and off we went.....absolutely no
big deal.
I would NEVER go into that part of town unarmed. They do increase the police patrols on the fairgrounds themselves.....
but even then..... and especially leaving the grounds at night....you better keep your eyes wide open! Other than that,
have a good time.

We went two years ago, same experience (except for the cop being in the car). Don't go walking through those parking lots unarmed! It's absolutely no big deal.

No DART buses, stations, or trains are posted (can't be, they're government owned).

Probably the same folks that fried coke a few years ago. As far as that cholesterol bomb goes, I'm still considering trying the bacon explosion someone made a few years ago for the superbowl.

I am not and have never been a LEO. My avatar is in honor of my friend, Dallas Police Sargent Michael Smith, who was murdered along with four other officers in Dallas on 7.7.2016.

If I ever eat fried butter, there had better be a Port-a-Potty nearby!!!!

Kind of makes the Nachos on the Wally Walk obsolete, doesn't it?

One of my buddies made that a while back. Amazingly, he's still alive.

I went to the fair last year on senior day, and as I approached the gate a guy with a wand asked to look in my wife's purse. Then as he approached me with his wand I showed him my CHL, and he asked if I was carrying. I said yes, and he said have a good day. Some have told me they call over the DPD officer on duty at the gate, but he did not in my case. The fair is much cleaner and better patrolled than in years past.
