Looks like things are speeding up a little, but I'm not going to get too excited, since I’m in the Houston area. I believe that the bigger the city they have to do a records search in, the longer the wait. I do hope I’m wrong.

Re: August 2009 Applications
Well, it's been 32 calendar days since my app changed to "Processing". Knowing how many apps have been approved/mailed in the last 3 weeks, told me that MAYBE the telephone lines won't be as jammed as they were prior to Sept. 1.
So I decided to test my theory and I made a call to DPS. My theory was proved right. I was on hold for only 20 seconds(I timed it), and a nice lady named Monica took my call. 20 seconds! The first time I called in June, I held for a good 25 minutes. Amazing. It looks like the backlog is all but cleared out.
Now the bad news....for me. I was told that my file is in the hands of a "tech", since something came up on my background check. I was expecting it would, and I anticipated that by sending in all the "dispositions" that that I could think of with my application. And Monica said that I DID "self-declare"(in my app) those offenses(all Class C misdemeanors). Not only did I send in the dispositions, but I also sent in narratives of those offenses......all 2 pages typed out in landscape orientation! That's a LOT of verbage, lemme tell ya!
The lady on the phone did say that the tech(I have her name) has had my file for about a week, and if she needs anything else from me, she will send me a letter. I thanked her and the conversation ended.
*sigh* well, so much for a speedy approval for me....I guess. I may call the tech tomorrow. But who knows? It may go quicker than I expect. All in all, I am glad I called.

Re: August 2009 Applications
Joe , i don't see it as bad news at all .
at least you know that someone is working on it .
its still relatively early in your processing . with the way things are going right now , i wouldn't be surprised
if they finished it up in the next 3 weeks or so .

You're right. With these new procedures in place, there's no telling, and processing is still pretty early in the stages. Thanks!USA1 wrote:Joe , i don't see it as bad news at all . at least you know that someone is working on it .

Here I am.....waiting!
pkg & pin rcvd: 8/13/09
CHL class: 8/29/09
Pkg Mailed: 8/31/09
Pkg Rcvd: 9/1/09 The crazy thing is that the website STILL says package sent/mailed to applicant!
Plastic Received:TBD - maybe this month?! (or as the Beach Boys would say - Dreeeeeam, dream, dream, dream dreeeeam!)
On a separate note: I went and got my Holster today. I bought (and carrying, but without a firearm!) a Blackhawk IWB which came with a Belt loop to boot! I think it is going to work. Right now just carrying for feel and confidence building.
Hooyah!

Re: August 2009 Applications
NAVY CHIEF, you are due to have it change over to "processing" to be sure. Took me 12 days, I think. It's in the sig line.
What are you going to put in that great new holster?

Re: August 2009 Applications
I thought so too, so on friday I called and "they" told me that it "might" be changed this week, that it is taking 3-4 weeks for the system to show the update. Hmmmm.?joe817 wrote:NAVY CHIEF, you are due to have it change over to "processing" to be sure. Took me 12 days, I think. It's in the sig line.

As far as the new holster - I am going to get my very own Glock 23!
I also goofed - it is not an IWB it is a paddle holster (OWB) which is what I wanted to start off with since I am considering either a TSC or a Crossbreed. No since in spending $$ on something else. I can wait (not patiently, but I can wait!)
