First Holster Disappointment
Well, I got a Fobus Rotoholster for my XD, and I'm not happy with it. Lesson learned - adjustable paddle holsters are inadequate most CC situations because the pistol simply hangs out too far..
I'm now looking at Don Hume and Uncle Mike's.

Re: First Holster Disappointment
To be honest, over the years I have never been satisfied with any inexpensive holster I have owned. All that I have liked are ones that I spent more than $50 on. The cheapest one I liked was the Crossbreed Supertuck. As far as holsters go, you get what you pay for.

You may find you'll have to try a bunch of different holsters before finding one that works.
For IWB, this is my preference:

For OWB, I've been happy with this (just wish it came in black):

An inexpensive IWB that works well (for me) is this one:

Helpful link, I'm going to be buying one soon and I had a question for you. Which do you prefer, C-clips or standard? Thanks.
The spirit of resistance to government is so valuable on certain occasions, that I wish it to be always kept alive. It will often be exercised when wrong, but better so than not to be exercised at all. I like a little rebellion now and then. It is like a storm in the atmosphere. -Thomas Jefferson

I finally broke down and ordered a super tuck deluxe from CrossBreedHolsters.com just today... says I'll get it in 2-3 weeks. Many people on the board report good luck and the Guntalk guy loves them.

I use the C clips. They work just fine.karl wrote:Helpful link, I'm going to be buying one soon and I had a question for you. Which do you prefer, C-clips or standard? Thanks.ghostrider wrote:You may find you'll have to try a bunch of different holsters before finding one that works.

Cheap, ain't.
Save your $ and invest in a decent quality holster/belt. Check out the FIST website and prices.

The Hume 721OT is an excellent value in a non-custom OWB holster. I carry my sig P239 in one and it's the first holster I bought for it.jsimmons wrote:I've ordered a Don Hume 721OT. We'll see...
IWB comfort will require a little searching as body types differ. I've heard of 1 or 2 custom holster makers that will let you try their product and send it back for a refund if it doesn't work for you. The biggest problem is the established master holster craftsmen have a LONG waiting list. PM me and I can give you the names of "up and coming" leather (if that's what you want) craftsmen that have a month or less wait time.
I agree with others on the importance of a quality belt (especially carring OWB).

Also of note because it is frequently forgotten, don't forget you need a nice heavy duty pistol belt. The difference between a regular belt, even a good one, and a tactical/gun belt are striking. A gun belt more even distributes the weight increasing comfort greatly. There are several, including the one I use-Beltman. Also a spare magazine is suggested with the mantra, always bring twice as much as you think you'll need.
I second the Comp-tac. I use that and a simple slider holster depending on clothing.

look for a post by wildscar. He has a GREAT review of the Comp-Tac Minataur M-Tac holster in his signature.
When I carry my XD I use that holster and absolutely love it!

+1 on gunbelts ... Awaiting my second Beltman. Also found a great nylon web belt - the 5.11 "trainer" belt 1.5 inch thickness. Very stiff and works great for times when your belt is not visible (cover garment etc).

Crossbreed Supertuck - FTW (For The Win)!!!jsimmons wrote:Well, I got a Fobus Rotoholster for my XD, and I'm not happy with it. Lesson learned - adjustable paddle holsters are inadequate most CC situations because the pistol simply hangs out too far..

In all seriousness, I have 3 of them (1 for each - M&P 40, Sig P-220, and XD-45 Service). I was lucky enough to choose the perfect holster(s) (for me) the first time out...thanks to the helpful people here.
Worth it worth it worth it!
