Relatively new CHL from Keller + Holster ?
Hello everyone,
I had a question about conceal carry holsters. I carry an XD(M) .40 and currently use a "Smart Carry" holster that hides in my crotch (It has it's own elastic and velcro band to hang off my hips). It's very comfortable, unless I'm sitting in my vehicle or on my bike. The problem I have is when I'm sitting in my vehicle I'd prefer to unholster so the drive is more comfortable, but it's not so easy to holster or unholster the gun with it in my crotch. It's a bit easier when I don't wear a belt, but then my pants hang too low for comfort. Does anyone have a suggestion as to a holster that may be a better fit for me? If my gun was smaller, I'd probably be 100% happy with my current "Smart Carry".
EDIT:
I typically wear either Blue jeans or Khaki style pants with either a polo (untucked) or a t-shirt (untucked).
Also, my current "Smart Carry" holster would be considered a "deep ride" type of holster.

I use an MTAC by from comp-tac.com. I carry at the 4:00 position and it works great while standing or sitting in a car. BTW, I carry a Kimber Ultra Carry.

Thanks for the info. I've checked out their site as well as the site for Cross Breed holsters. I think an IWB side holster at 2 or 4 o'clock may be better for me than my current comfort-wise, and it will most likely allow for easier access.

Another one for the MTAC, I carry 4" Xd 45 @ about 2:30
I was trying to decide on either the MTAC or the Supertuck. Main reason I did not go with the super tuck is because the Kydex doesn't extend all the way down to the barrel. This in turn will eventually wear a place in your pants a lot faster where the barrel touches.

I carry the XD-40 4" in a Supertuck at 3:00, and it's very comfortable. I did have to replace the kydex clips with the new steel clips, and they work great.

Re: Relatively new CHL from Keller + Holster ?
I usually carry a Glock 30 SF n a supertuck with a spare mag next to it, basically at about 12:30.
(My hips are way too boney to carry at the side of my body without 'printing')
The down side is that it is a deep conceal and difficult to access quickly with a belt on, the up side is that it is undectable to most people. Another benefit is that it shields the soft dangly bits from attack somewhat. When I carry this way I always have the Bersa in my pocket. My thinking is I would use that until the .45 can be accessed. Fortunately I am ambidextrous so I feel totally comfortable shooting left handed while the right hand retrieves the Glock.
This is one reason I frequently practice shooting with either hand and single handed too.

Re: Relatively new CHL from Keller + Holster ?
For whatever it is worth, I researched holsters for days on end and finally decided on one that works great for me. Believe it or not, the ACE CASE Tuckable has been FANTASTIC for me. You can order it from Cheaper Than Dirt for $9.99 !!!!!!! I was concerned about it being 'pleather' but actually that has been GREAT because it has easily and naturally 'molded' itself to my gun (took about a month). It has a very strong exposed clip and I wear it at not quite 3 o'clock when tucked. I have had comments, when I ask what it looks like before telling anyone what 'it' is (because of the location), from a cell phone clip - most common, to Leatherman, etc... Not even my CHL friends could tell what it was. When not tucked the handle is about 3/4 of the way exposed. Times when I have left work and I was too lazy to tuck my shirt in the holster but had the shirt tucked into my pants i just 'keep my hand on my hip' at the waist line and because it carrys so low you can't see it. It looks like I am tired or 'sassy' [lol] depending on my mood I guess. Travels fantastic while sitting -once you get used to it. Carrys well in small of back but only if shirt is 'untucked' and not tucked into the holster.
For $9.99.....what do you have to lose to try????????
Hope this helps.

Hammer, thanks so much for that review! I've added to my favs. Another choice, and choices are good. If you mentioned it, I didn't catch it, but what kind of gun do you carry in it?

Re: Relatively new CHL from Keller + Holster ?
well....that is a sore subject...lol
Taurus model 850 cia .38 spl, 5 shot wheel gun, 2" barrel, hammerless, smooth lines, nice rubber grip handle.
I am a Glock man through and through. The first and only gun I ever owned was a Glock Model 21, .45 "there are many like it but this one is mine"...lolol
I adore that gun. With a GOOD friend, I made a TEMPORARY trade because I could not afford a 'new' smaller gun for Conceal and Carry and the model 850 is the new carry for Taurus. Grudgingly, I made the 'trade.' I love carrying a gun now...but miss my Glock.
I felt like someone shot my dog when when we made the trade.
This Taurus is a nice gun but it is a small frame with a short barrel. Don't get me wrong, it is a nice gun...balanced, good weight, solid frame, nice handle...but it is taking me a WHILE to get used to it. It is kind of like getting a new dog after you lose a lifetime one...he is kinda growing on me...sigh.
