The Glock pistol is about the easiest, simpliest, most maintainable pistol on the market -hands down. Any person with internet access can easily learn to totally detail strip a Glock down to the last pin. And every part that might need replacing can be ordered off the net for crazy low prices.
Those reasons alone may not make the Glock the right pistol for everyone, but if takedown and maintenance are key factors in the decision the Glocks wins this one everytime
Just like a Remington shotgun. If you can only have one handgun it should be a Glock. And I rarely shot my Glock. I prefer my HK and XD but I will always have a Glock.

They may all carry 1911's but thats not what they are issued according to the following sources.srothstein wrote:BZZZZT. DPS issues Sig's but the Rangers all carry 1911's. Being a division of the DPS, Rangers are issued the same sidearm as State Troopers.

I hate tough decisions, so I have a Glock, Sig Pro and H &K .40. With a Glock 23c on layaway, and for the days I need something a bit more concealable, I have the ever reliable H & K P7. (9mm)

I'd chang that 23c to a 23..........minimal impact and a "flash".........not worth it.......dac1842 wrote:I hate tough decisions, so I have a Glock, Sig Pro and H &K .40. With a Glock 23c on layaway, and for the days I need something a bit more concealable, I have the ever reliable H & K P7. (9mm)

Haven't read the entire thread, so you may have already made a decision on which one to buy...that said, Glock or M&P are great pistols.
Shoot all three, whichever pistol you feel most comfortable shooting - buy it. You really can't make a mistake with any of these.

Where can you do layaway for a handgun? That is a great idea.
Re: Buy a Glock or S&W or save for the Sig?
Your wife calls it accessorizing, my calls going to the range, and cleaning guns foreplay!
Someone asked where do you buy guns on layaway, almost all of mine come from Pawn Shops. great way to buy them,

"Lose that nickel plated sissy pistol and get yourselfa Glock".

If you are going to carry it all the time, the sig is going to be pretty heavy, especially with a full mag of ammo. So unless you are using a shoulder rig, I would lean towards the polymer

I disagree. All I carried for a year was a Sig P229 .40 12+1 IWB. Wore it everywhere and all the time. And well, lets just say I'm one of those "hefty" CHL carriers. Like any fullsize it takes some adjustment. It didn't take long for me to even really notice it. Same for the P220. I carried that one a lot also. With a sinlge stack the 220 was a bit more comfortable. I am not saying the P229 was the best ccw ever but I will say with absolute confidence that I had no problems carrying it day to day. Anyhow, that's my experience.txbirddog wrote:"Lose that nickel plated sissy pistol and get yourselfa Glock".

Disclaimer: I am a diehard Sig fan and all references made to, for, or about Sigs should be taken with a grain of salt. I am totally biased and think Sigs are the GREATEST FIREARMS IN THE WORLD!!!!!!(except for maybe this new fangled P238 .380)

Re: Buy a Glock or S&W or save for the Sig?
Here's how I determine whether or not a pistol "fits" me:
I go to a gun shop that has the pistol(s) I'm looking for. When I'm handling the pistol, I pick it up with my strong hand, settle it into a "shooting" grip, and then, while still holding the pistol low, I focus my eyes on a distant point; that's my "target."
I then close my eyes, and raise the pistol to "shooting" position, until it "feels" as if it's aimed at my "target." Then I open my eyes, and look at the sights - if the pistol actually fits me well, it should be aimed in darned close to where it felt like it was aimed.
Despite their build quality, virtually all SIGS (except the P210) fail this test miserably in my hand . . . and most S&Ws fare badly, too, as do Rugers. On the other hand, 1911s, most Glocks, and the BHP do well.
Of course, the pistol that fits me may not fit you . . . but I suggest you try this method out and see if it works; it just may help you pick the pistol you'll be most happy with.

I use the exact same method as HankB in checking for "fit" with most all firearms. Actually, I read about it several years ago for deterrmining fit of sporting shot guns when I got interested in sporting clays and dove hunting. The whole concept just seemed to carry over to pistols and rifles as well. Works for me.
