Thanks for all the info
Thank you everyone for all the info. I guess I've got some research to do, since there doesn't seem to be any real concensus on which loads, although I've noticed quite a few of you like the Speer Gold Dots.
Paladin, thanks for the links to those loading for LEOs. I'll add them to my short list to try out. So far I've put almot 1000 rounds through my SA 1911 GI, and have only had 2 FTLs (both were last round out of a Kimber magazine, no less!), but I ran 40 Corbon DPXs (so far - pretty pricey, but then, what's a life worth?) with no issues so far.
I'm a member of the "slower & heavier is better than faster & lighter, but faster & heavier is best" crowd, so I'll probably check out some of those 230 grain +P loads (SA says that the 5" barrel models of 1911 shouldn't have any problems at all with this, so we'll see).
Diode, I'd be happy to have a beer & some gun talk. What's your favorite watering hole?

I like to think of it in football terms... tis the time of year again--YES, Finally!
You're the ball carrier, would you rather be tackled by a Dion Sanders type - who's small, light and fast; or by a Reggie White who's big, heavy and not quite as fast (about 1/2)?
Personally, I'd rather be tackled by Dion than by Reggie; not that Dion couldn't put on an occasional hard hit, but Reggie could always--ALWAYS--put that hit on.

I'll have to add another vote for the GoldDot. As many have already said, there are several on the market that work great....but ya have to find the one that works well in your gun. I have heard many stories about finicky guns.....all of mine shoot better than I do no matter what I feed them
Best of luck!

I carry a Kimber Ultra Carry in .45ACP as my primary. I recently switched to Winchester Ranger because it's what the local PD uses.
I may have to defend my actions before a jury. A zealous prosecutor (or plaintiff's attorney) may try to show that my choice of ammo indicates malicious intent. Think about the flap over Black Talons or "cop killer" bullets. If I'm using the same ammo as the police, that's a tougher argument to make.
