Gander Mountain - Sherman
I was in Gander Mountain in Sherman today. As I entered the store I encountered the following sign: " All Firearms and Bows must be checked at the Customer Service Desk". My assumption is they are referring to guns brought in for service or trade. The only other Gander Mountain I've been in is Texarkana - that sign was not posted there.

Your assumption is correct. I just got back from taking my brother-in-law to Gander in Spring to check the trade in value, and they said he needed to bring the pistol to the customer service desk and have someone from the firearms dept. come pick it up there. They are not posted with 30.06 in Spring. Even if they do not want any CCW's in there, they were not posting the correct signage there, so the whole "check your gun" thing is no good for CHL's.

The Texarkana GM has added a couple of signs. First, they had a hand-written one that said "all firearms must be checked in at Customer Service". Then they made a computer printout with the same wording. Then someone scribbled below in magic marker: "Does not apply to concealed carry."
I think they've got an all-printed version now with that final wording. I absolutely guarantee you that GM welcomes CHLs, and they do not want to check your loaded carry gun. The manager of the Texarkana store is a friend, and my wife's ex-boss. He grumbles about their company policy against employees carrying while on duty.
