Who do I contact?

#1

Post by javechet »

I originally made my first few posts a few weeks ago about how my CHL is taking a ridiculously long time to get approved. Some suggested that I contact certain officials about my situation, as they have done so with success; or know of others. Pardon my ignorance but, who exactly am I suppose to contact? I understand it's a state Senator or Rep., but do not know any specific names. If any one could help out and point me in the right direction, that would greatly appreciated. Five months and counting is starting to test my patients.

Go to this page: http://www.capitol.state.tx.us/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Enter your address and ZIP code in the "Who Represents Me?" area in the lower right corner. You want to contact your state senator and representative.

You might want to make sure they didn't retire, resign, or die recently.

Contacting representatives does seem to have kicked-started many stalled applications.

Thanks a lot seamusTX. I sent emails to both my Representative and State Senator regarding my situation. With the representative, it said something along the lines of: With the vast number of emails he receives, that it would be impossible for him to answer them all. So we'll see what happens. Again, thanks a bunch.

You're welcome.

I suggest calling during business hours. Public officials get loads of e-mail from kooks (I don't mean you -- people who have been abducted by space aliens and the like), and the messages may not be read for weeks.

I got the same message about the vast number of emails when I sent my rep a message. It took about a week before I received a response from someone with my rep's office, but I was given good news. The person that called me from my rep's office in response to my email said that he had just hung up the phone with DPS and that DPS went ahead and approved the app. I also emailed DPS before my reps office called me and I got a response from DPS within an hour stating that they were still waiting on my background check and could not give me an ETA, so it seems that my reps office did help out to make sure DPS got the ball rolling.

Well I just got a response from my Rep. saying:

Hello,

Could I have your DL # or CHL application number so DPS can tell me what the status is on your application?

Thanks

I gave them my DL#, so now hopefully something is in motion.

So I just got a call back from the Reps. office. It appears that the hold up is due to my being born abroad. He said I should hear something from DPS by the end of this month; be it approved, denied, or missing something else. And if I don't hear anything by then I should give him a call back. At least now I'm not left in the dark.
