Do you have insurance?!
I read in one of the threads about CHLPP and I visited the website. I'm not sure what's going on there. For starter it's a very poor looking site. looks like something an amateur created in 10 min. on word.
Anyone here is a member there? are there alternatives? what would you do if you will have to shoot someone and now you need to face trial?

When you got to shoot, shoot. Don't talk.

Check into your Homeowner's liability coverage and then check into a separate Umbrella Liability policy and pray...that you never have to shoot anybody.

As usual, when Oldgringo speaks, listen.
I might just add -- the Reverend speaks of "facing trial." In the situation he asks about, remember that there are a couple of kinds of trial one might face.
First, of course, is the possibility of a criminal trial, where your major expenses might be expected to be attorney's fees, perhaps a fine, and the cost of bail if arrested and jailed.
Secondly, is the defense of a civil action brought by the shootee, his dependents or survivors, and/or innocent bystanders wounded or killed (depending on how good a shot you are

Follow Oldgringo's advice carefully -- very carefully! Most persons should not trust their ability to properly parse the fine print in an insurance policy. For example, many, if not most, standard liability policies do not insure against damages you cause through an intentional act. We should not blindly assume that shooting another person in self-defense is NOT an intentional act. Similarly we should not assume that a liability policy insures us for the costs associated with a criminal trial.
Lastly, do not expect to get an unambiguous answer to these questions by writing to your insurance company. Talk to your broker, and get his answer in writing. If he will not give you an unambiguous answer in writing, consider getting another broker. There has been many a case where an insurance company gets off the hook, while the broker pays a price for having given improper advice about the coverage given.
I have heard it said that one can insure anything, if one is prepared to pay the price. Take that advice with a grain of salt.

Wow, didn't know Monday was going to be so brutal. Angry worker bees!
A personal liability policy. Yes, an umbrella policy. And essentially the 'personal anything policy'

No one's angry, just need clarification.
"A personal liability policy. Yes, an umbrella policy. "
Which one are you referring too?
Plus not being up on insurance lingo, I don't one policy from the other, or if in fact, they are one in the same...
Hhmmm, you wouldn't by chance work for the insurance industry would you?
Just kidding!

lol No.
The term may depend on your carrier. I can't be any more clear on what my policy is called, Personal Liability which is in "Other Insurances" (aside from Homeowners, Auto, Life and Annuities), all are encompassed by the heading 'Umbrella'.
If you aren't familiar with insurance lingo I would recommend you take a look through what your carrier provides to get an idea of what will work for you.

I have CHLPP and seems good to me. Cost I think I paid 400 for 5 years. 100% covered. As far as civil suit goes Castle Doctrine should cover you. Cheap insurance to save my family and house plus there Pro gun lawyers. Was recommended by my CHL instructor. Personally I would not carry a gun without some type of coverage. chlpp.com

Re: Do you have insurance?!
Sorry to resurrect the thread, but I have some questions about CHLPP. I know a lot of you are saying to up your homeowners personal liability, but I DON'T OWN A HOME! That and I believe that an umbrella policy will only protect you from CIVIL action, not criminal (Don't have my property and casualty insurance license, so I'm not sure). CHLPP seems like a good option, as the castle doctrine protects a good shoot from civil action, it's mainly the Criminal defense I am worried about. Saying get the bail-bondsmen to bail you out, and find a lawyer afterwords is not an option for those of us who don't have 25,000-50,000 sitting around!!! Having some sort of insurance paying up to the Grand Jury is an economically viable option for the rest of us.
I'm sure anyone whose been involved in a shooting won't go into details, but has anyone who has CHLPP and used the coverage able to shed some light? Or is everyone that used it wound up in prison?

I just signed up with CHLPP last weekend. They have some testimonials on their website...if you ask them, they might provide you with some references.Sewer_Ice wrote:Sorry to resurrect the thread, but I have some questions about CHLPP. I did some checking on them and they seem legit. Hopefully I'll never have to use their service, but it gives me enormous peace of mind to know it's there if I need it.

Re: Do you have insurance?!
How did you check up on them? Are they backed by an actual insurance company? (LLoyds?) Perhaps you could post a contract? (any personal info removed, of course)
