Sprinfield XD-40 review and range report

#1

Post by UofHdevildog »

Got a new sub-compact yesterday because I was tired of the 1911, and the Sig is suffering some reliability problems. Figured some of you might like a little review before you spent some hard earned money.

I like the trigger more than a Glock because it just seems a little smoother and less travel. The sights are the perfect combination of having enough space for quick aquisition and narrow enough for acccuracy. The small mag holds 9 round and the extended holds 12. I shot the target anywhere from 5 yards all the way back to 20. As you can see accuracy didn't suffer because of short barrel. It's a little heavier than the Glock 27 but it's actually smaller overall. I know the shots are above the 10 ring but I shoot instinctively for the chest area so son't worry about impact. Double taps were smooth and the two holes were really close demonstrating excellent recovery. I had no problems carrrying it today and would reccomend it. :thumbs2:

Soooooo I assume you are happy with your purchase?: j/k. Seriously thought glad you found a winner and I hope it serves you well. How is the recoil on that? My friend bought an XD-40 for his first gun but it was the 4" version and I was always curious of the sub-compact recoil as his seemed a bit snappy. Not unbearable but certainly pronounced.

All 40's are snappy.

But I had no trouble at all keeping on target and having quick follow up shots. My double taps were lightning quick because the gun stayed on target really good.

Thanks for the report. :tiphat:

I've had mine only a few days and love everything about it.
As far as the recoil , I'm used to shooting a .45 so the .40 was a nice change for me.

One extra benefit is the .40 S&W ammo is over flowing at my local Walmart.

Congratulations on your purchase. :cheers2:

Yep I picked 5 boxes of federal target ammo tonight. They had plenty more and it was less than 14 a box! Far cry from gander mtn. charging over 30 a box

Been using my uncle mike's holster for my 1911. It works even though the barrel room on it obviously is too long. I'll get another one specifically for it tommorrow. Them things are comfy!

You certainly picked a good one. I've got the 4" model. For OWB, I use the Don Hume Double 9 holster, and for IWB, use the Supertuck...works great for me. Nice shooting BTW.

I have always enjoyed mine. I don't carry it alot as the holster that I have for it doesn't get much use. But when it goes to the range it fires just fine...easy to shoot for a sub-compact (or for any size).

Love mine and also shoots great. Blackhawk makes a nice holster. Thats why I bought mine. Ammo everywhere and its cheap for good Federal brand at Wallyworld.

For some reason, I could never comfortably carry my XD. Awesome guns but seem to weigh a ton. So now I keep it in the nightstand :)

Yeah even though it's smaller than a glock sub it is a little heavier, but compared to my 1911 that I usually carry it's a blessing.
