Anyone carry blanks?

I think the towel got tossed into the ring on the blanks question. My concern is the comment about showing the handgun and making a verbal warning.

Drop all ideas about warnings. If the bg is close enough for you to determine a weapon in his/her hand there is no time for a warning of anykind. A human can close the gap quicker than most excited individuals can get the words out. If they are quick enough they can fall on the ground before I get my first shot off. I do shoot one of those slow 45's.

The only time I would consider a verbal warning is if there is a wall or locked door between the bg and Myself.

I took my future brother in law hunting last weekend. He's never shot before and he was really interested in my AR-15 so I tought him some basic firearm safety and loaded the clip with blanks and didn't tell him. He is still talking about how 10 hogs got away from him and he could see the bullets hitting trees behind them I havn't had the heart to tell him yet.

I don't think I would ever put a blank in my cc. If I ever have to draw it I don't plan on just scaring someone, plus if they came after me I wouldn't want to keep pulling the trigger until a live round exited the pipe.

I think I can safely say that anyone who carries blanks are taking a pretty good chance of pushing up daisies!

May as well carry a replica gun that shoots caps/blanks (you wouldn't even need a CHL for that). And, make sure your Life Insurance Policy is up to date.

I don't really mean carry a full mag of blanks (though I knew it'll draw your attention )

I was thinking and it sounds reasonable for me to carry my gun with a mag full of HP bullets but put a blank in the chambes.
My logic would be that if I'm in a life threating situation I can allways shoot 2 rounds immediatly and if the situation is such that a "warning shot" can intimidate the BG enough / scare them away I won't have to think twice about discharging my gun and worry about where that bullet is going to land.

Your thoughts?

If you do so, be sure to carry a revolver. An auto pistol may jam with blanks.

Blanks are for combat (be it Military or Civilian) training purposes. They serve no other purpose in my mind.

I know that Cheaper Than Dirt often has the .223 mil-spec, M200, crimped version in stock; bought some there once. I know that they sell both the yellow and red muzzle-mount blank adapters, too, for about 10 bucks. (Which are almost 100% necessary in order for the carbine to cycle properly: not enough gas back-pressure otherwise, though you could still do single-shot, manual-charge demo/practice without the adapter...may even cycle one round without the adapter, if you're lucky.)

Ammoman (http://www.ammoman.com/) often has M200, as well. Prvi Partizan used to make them, but I think they discontinued doing so, so there may be some good deals floating around on older lots if you can find them.

One note is that you don't want the original M200 rounds that had a white tipping on the crimp. The newer stuff (a violet-colored crimp if from Lake City) is dirty enough (read: twice as dirty as poppin' regular ammo), but the white-tipped, older cartridges can have your action dirty enough to foul after just a few magazines.

Actually my point was that with every blank I have ever had, for a gas operated weapon, and without a BFAD there is little to no likelyhood that the action will cycle, and a BFAD is kind of noticeable. Makes a funny story, but . . .

I don't see the point of blanks, and here's my logic:

1. In the State of Texas, drawing your weapon is the threat of using force;
2. In the State of Texas, the threat of force is only justified if the actual use of force is also justified (see below);
3. Therefore, I'm not going to threaten anyone with the use of force, as I won't be drawing unless the actual use of force is justified, or I reasonably believe the use of force is justified.

If I feel the use of force is justified, my first two shots will be center mass of the threat. In many use of force situations, those first two shots are the only two you will have time to get off. I won't waste them with blanks.
