Cheaper Than Dirt
I know, I know. I'm a late comer to CTD but I have to say what a toy store! I have heard about the Online site (nationally known) but just for the first time walked in to the store in Fort Worth...wow. It has an inherent monetary hazard in that it is difficult to get into without spending but it has plenty of everything at very reasonable prices.
For example, I went in to get a new field kit and found a hundred round brick of Winchester .40 S&W target loads for just over $40. Not bad considering today's prices, and there was plenty.

Re: Cheaper Than Dirt
Not to rain on your parade, but I just boughta 100 pound brick of WWB .40 for $27.88 at Wal Mart two days ago.
I actually stopped ordering from CTD's web site because they seemed to be spiking ammo prices more than others.

That's pretty high... they're $13.57 for 50 at Wal-Mart.Dragonfighter wrote:I know, I know. I'm a late comer to CTD but I have to say what a toy store! I actually order from The Sportsmans Guide now. CTD lost all my business after they jumped in to the ammo spike. TSG never did that.

Re: Cheaper Than Dirt
Show off. The Walmarts I have within a 20-30 minute ride never have it. The one up the road had a couple boxes of the cruddy aluminum cased ammo at around $18.00 for 50, but I won't run that through anything I own.austinrealtor wrote:Not to rain on your parade, but I just boughta 100 pound brick of WWB .40 for $27.88 at Wal Mart two days ago.

They were among the worst price-gougers during the post-Obama election rush. If I recall correctly, they were selling 30-round Pmags for close to $100 in January or February of 2009.austinrealtor wrote:Not to rain on your parade, but I just boughta 100 pound brick of WWB .40 for $27.88 at Wal Mart two days ago.

Re: Cheaper Than Dirt
That would be just over 2,800 rounds (if packaged in the usual styrofoam trays of 50 rounds each). Seriously. You did ask.wheelgun1958 wrote:Wow! 100 pounds? At least for online ordering, CTD is sorta hit or miss for me. I try to compare prices, and I can't even remember the last time I ordered ammo from them (but admittedly that's partly because I have to pay both shipping and sales tax if ordering from them). But they do occasionally have some hard-to-find merchandise, or items that are heavily discounted.
There was a hiccup back during hurricane Ike. CTD advertised some nifty hurricane-kit stuff I thought I might as well add (polyethylene water bags, glow sticks, etc.), so ordered them second-day delivery about five days before the storm hit. Needless to say, it took CTD a day or so too long to ship them, UPS stoppped delivering the day before the storm hit, so about five days after hurricane Ike came through, my extra preparedness items were finally delivered.

Wow. Maybe I was dazzled by all the shiny, er Parkerized goodies. There is some disturbing information related in this thread.hirundo82 wrote:They were among the worst price-gougers during the post-Obama election rush. Re: Cheaper Than Dirt
They are hit-and-miss for me.
I stop in there every week or so.
Some of their new guns are price very reasonable, others not so much.
I bought a LCP form them for $299.99 when they were going like hotcakes for $350+ elsewhere.
Other pistols seem to be less competitive.
Their ammo prices seem about average, but they do have stock.
I do recall they declined to honor their advertised prices back when ammo spiked.
I like that you can buy the catalog items at their rear counter every day.

The mail order catalog is fun to read but that's expensive dirt!

I used to be dazzled by all their stuff too. But after getting their catalog now for a few years, it seems only the covers and the prices change.
