Don't remember exactly which forum I read this on, but....

Dad handed his daughter's new boyfriend a single round of .45 and told him to keep it in his pocket. Dad also told him that he had 7 more just like it, waiting, if he ever found out the young man had hurt his daughter. A few years later the young man took the bullet out of his pocket and handed it back to his now-Father-in-Law saying he didn't think he needed it any more!

Edited because I almost forgot the most important thing.... CONGRATULATIONS! :thewave

And remember, the proof is in the pictures!

All guns have at least two safeties. One's digital, one's cognitive. In other words - keep the digit off the trigger until ready to fire, and THINK. Some guns also have mechanical safeties on top of those. But if the first two don't work, the mechanical ones aren't guaranteed. - me

Congratulations, I raised four daughters whenever a new boyfriend came over I would make a point of sitting calmly sharpening my Buck General knife that I carried in Vietnam. The inferences were much more dramatic than simply alluding to shooting them. "rlol"

The boys at my oldest daughter's school had a name for me - - - "Mr. Rambo" I kinda liked that. :thumbs2:

Congratulations. Sons are great but daughters are special. Having two of each, and I really enjoy each one, but, I especially like it when my daughters call me "Daddy" even though they are all adults now. Just remember the old saying, "Most men can be a father, but it takes someone special to be a Daddy". Oh, and start saving for college and the wedding now.

On the "Boyfriend Talk" issue, I recall one Saturday afternoon several years ago when I answered the door to a mid-teens aged young fellow bent over picking up his skateboard wearing a ball cap on sideways, bling around his neck, an open shirt exposing his wife beater and his pants hanging down exposing his shorts. He said "Yo, is Victoria here?"

To which I replied, "She may be, but I have a question for you. Are you aware of the fact that I can see your underwear?"

He said, "So."

I said, "Sooooo, did it ever occur to you that I might not want my daughter to have to look at your underwear? Son, I have some options for you, would you like to borrow a belt? Or, would you like to join me in the garage where I could use my nail gun to nail those pants to your backside to make sure they don't fall down in my house? Or would you like to run along on home and put on some clothes that fit before trying to see my daughter again?"

He just stood there blinking for a few moments while trying to process the options I had presented him, then said "No", pickup up his skateboard and left.

My daughter was mortified at first, but her Mom and older sister calmed her down with things like Daddy is looking out for you and that guys a jerk if he shows up here dressed like that and perhaps this will help him learn how to act in the presence of a lady. After coming home from school the following Monday, apparently the young man's version of the encounter was all over the school but many of the other girls apparently sided with my position and supported my daughter.

There have been several other boys around here since, but a noticeable lack of exposed underwear from just about any of them. And, each daughter having a brother two years older who, I have just recently learned, apparently screened potential suitors much more aggressively than I would have ever been allowed, seemed to help keep things between the guardrails through the years.

Congratulations to you and your new family.
My daughter is on the other side of childhood and turns 18 today. I hope you enjoy your daughter as much as I have enjoyed mine. Mine is going off to college in a few months :cryin
From the posts, I see that some of the other daddys have been down this road before me.

Congrats!

As to the boyfriend line, I still think the best on is from Clueless: "I've got a 45 and a shovel, I doubt anyone will miss you." :tiphat:

Many congratulations. There is a very special and unique relationship in the bond bewteen a daugther and her daddy. From the day she is born she will have you wrapped around her pinky and you will love every minute of it. :thumbs2:

She will make you laugh, make you cry, make you proud, worry you to death and steal your heart, your car and your money.....and you will love every second of it.

Hope mummy, daddy and baby girl are doing well. :tiphat:
