>I think anyone in their right mind would know not to take anything that they read off of some internet forum as legal advice
there are many people in the world not in their right mind. Plus we live in a society where some feel compelled to sue others for the most ridiculous things - but then we (society) have trained at least a generation to believe that nothing they do wrong could possibly be their fault. Not to mention our (society's) need to save the stupid people from themselves.
Why else would Ruger deface their fine products with 'read the manual, blah, blah' engravings? Or electric hair dryers with "do not use in shower" warnings? Anyone else notice that medicine commercials on TV now seem to be 20sec of advertisement, followed by what seems like 3min of disclaimers?

Perhaps we should end all our posts with disclaimers.
Post something about food - IANAC (I am not a chef)
- IANAG (I am not a grocer)
- IANAF (I am not a farmer)
Post something about politics - IANAP (I am not a politician)
Post something about guns - IANAG (I am not a gunsmith)
Use your imagination, sky's the limit.
Hey, if we're gonna be wimps, let's go all the way.
Why stop with just lawyer disclaimers?
After all, we might be sued by by anyone, for anything...

You don't have to be in your right mind to read or post on the internet. All it takes is a computer.ghostrider wrote:>I think anyone in their right mind would know not to take anything that they read off of some internet forum as legal advice

Thats my argument about Gun Control.
They want you to take tests/background checks to exercise your 2nd, but any old Fool can get on a Computer and Drag the 1st through the mud.

Hhhhhhmmm, I'm beginning to think those that post "I'm not a lawyer" really ARE lawyers, every one of em, but as has been pointed out, can't bill for the posting.
So, be on the look out for those that post INAL as they're probably all stealth lawyers...who can't bear to admit it.
INAPOQYEQ (...and I'm not either)

If you're worried about Unauthorized Practice of Agriculture, go right ahead and post all the acronymic disclaimers you think necessary. At this point I don't think it would change anyone's opinion of you in the slightest.Abraham wrote:Perhaps we should end all our posts with disclaimers.

Re: Why Post "I am not a lawyer...?
I was laughing about this at work today. It took about three weeks after I started before I was reminded to put the boilerplate in my emails, so I did. And, of course, there is a lot of similar boilerplate on our fax cover sheets. So, at about 2:00 this afternoon, the lawyer for my area came out of her office asking about a cover sheet. I was going to email a copy to her and she said no, she wanted one without the disclaimer. Her logis was that it makes no sense to put a non-disclosure disclaimer on a fax going from one state agency to another when it is a public record for both agencies anyway.Big Tuna wrote: you really don't want to see the boilerplate my employer tags onto outbound email.
You get two guesses who pushed for the non-disclosure and legal disclaimers on most of our stuff. And the first one won't count.
