Half second of terror at Taco Cabana

I'm still getting used to IWB carry with my B UC9, and the current method that seems to work for me is 1:30 with the handle tilted inward. Still, I have a little trouble with it trying to work its way out when I sit and stand.

Sooo-Yesterday in a hurry I jumped out of of my car and ran into TC to get some lunch to go and just as I walked in something fell off of me and hit the floor. I was convinced for the 1/2 second that I looked over the floor that it was the Bersa, but it turned out to be my Treo.

Has anyone ever dropped there CC in public, or had it fall out. I'm curious about how bystanders would react. I'm guessing if the guns gets calmly scooped up and re-holstered there wouldn't be a scene. I would scoop it up, and calmly walk to my car and drive away.

Over time, the screws of my holster backed out and voila - my Glock crashed to the concrete as I was exiting my vehicle. Oh, the horror...

Fortunately, no one else saw this happen, but my heart skipped a few beats.

In a way though, I'm rather glad it happened so fast as I may've reflexively tried to grab it. I tell myself - never catch a falling gun, but reflexes don't always obey in time...

I fear disclosing myself while I am out grocery shopping, out buying dogfood, etc. All that up and down, bending and stretching as I am 5'2" and those shelves are kind of high. Not sure what I would do should I have such an incident with a full load of groceries or my regular massive bag of dog food at Petsmart. Scoop it up, leave the cart in the aisle and do my shopping across town????

I am not happy with how high my current IWB holster rides and am looking into something that sits a little lower in the waistband. I am not comfortable with off the body carry and being female presents so many challenges. You guys have it pretty darn good!

My wife has gone through the same problems you are going through and being a women necessitates more compromises. My wife's best friend recently has been her fanny pack for most outings and around the house carry. She also has a pocket holster for her BT .380 on those rare occasions when she has deep enough pockets. When she has to, and yes there are times when you absolutely positively cannot be outed, she uses a pistol purse; sure a purse can be snatched, but if it's a matter of not carrying at all, you do what you gotta' do.

I've never dropped a carry weapon out, but I have had a weapon back up almost out of a holster on a couple occasions. Happened long ago - now it is my habit to hand check (repeatedly) where my carry weapon is in my holster. Just a quick inconspicuous pass of my fingers over my cover garment lets me know it is still secure.

Well, right, wrong or indifferent this is one of the reasons I use a Bianchi Carrylok with my XD9SC. I like the retention it offers for these very reasons. Also, for simple tasks like when we are at public restrooms. Saw a segment on Personal Defense with Mayoob on this very subject to keep the weapon concealed with our pants down. Interesting. But checking and knowing how your retention works is an important part of checking your equipment. It all works as a part of the tool.

It's not the gun working its way out of the holster, it's the holster pushing up and potentially out when I sit down. I thought the thud that I heard was the gun inside the holster. I'm still getting used to IWB carry, and I think I'm just being paranoid.

This means something about your set up is not fitting properly. You have to figure out what it is. I have NEVER had a handgun try to back out of my holster. Not even while running for a few seconds or so. I can jump up and down and it won't come out. I use a properly adjusted, for my body style, Crossbreed Supertuck. They work great and the depth is easily adjusted. If your leg is pushing the barrel of the gun up, you need a smaller length barrel on your gun. Just for kicks I put my Full Size Kimber in my holster and the barrel would hit my thigh when I sat down, pushing the gun up and out of the holster. I am 5'10" so I am thinking that you need to be pretty tall to get away with carrying a 5" barrel hand gun. I can carry a four inch without having the push up syndrome... the extra inch puts it over the edge.

A proper set up should NEVER allow your gun to work it's way out of the holster..

One possibility there is to go to a cross-body purse like the Coronado Crossbody Satchel. Not cheap, but if it's made like their vests, it's not going to be easy to break the strap to get it away from her. A smaller (and unisex) option would be the Cross Carry Bag.

my XD9 came out of a shoulder holster while shopping for daughters school clothes at baybrook- i caught it with my arm and ducked into a dressing room to resecure it.

I think the larger issue here being taco Cabana is posted 30.06 isnt it?

Most if not all of their stores have removed their signs per a directive from corporate after a letter writing campaign. One win for the CHL'ers!!

I wonder how inconspicuous it is to others. Especially to someone who is looking for such quirks. I can spot some carrying (I don't know if they have a license or not) often by their unconscious self-conscious actions. At first, it's just a suspicion, but the ones who have raised a red flag in my mind usually do something to confirm it within minutes.
