Wow & double Wow!! The .380 shortage has caused gun stores to rely on Wal-Mart as their primary supplier! Well....this we have known for a lonnnngggggg time. As well as Academy. And W.M. is not liking it.

IMO, this is a good idea they have. Perhaps...just perhaps, this might cut back on the price gouging we've seen on that ammo by others.....maybe not. But at least it's good that they recognize what's going on and refuse to join in!

I say, Kudos to Wal-Mart! :thumbs2:

I was just at Cabelas in Buda (a bit of a drive for the original poster, I know) but they had a few different kinds of 380 on the shelves, hollow points and FMJs.

Also, I had ordered a few boxes of 380 from Cabelas online last fall. The manufacturer was MFS 2000... It was certainly cheap... and in each box of 50 rounds I had at least 10 -15 duds. Pure crap. Stay away form that stuff.

Cabela's in Ft Worth had a good bit of WWB .380 in stock earlier in the week with a 3 box limit, I walked out with 6 boxes. The girl at the counter didn't know or chose not to say anything.
They were 92gr 50ct and a little high at 18.99 a box but that's supply and demand.

Make twice weekly calls to the academys in your area, in fact just to one Academy because they can check the invetory at the others near you.

You might find out when they receive their shipments and stock their shelves at Academy or Wal-Mart and check or call regularly at that time.

Once at Academy, after a fruitless trip looking for some ammo, I asked the clerk if they ever got it in and if so, how often. He replied that they got shipments every night and they never knew what they would get. He said they typically had it stocked by about 10 am, but the same guys each time would come in shortly after that and buy up whatever they had (probably to sell at another store or just hoard) :mad5 so that by the time everyone else came around in at lunch or later, it was always all gone. HE suggested I call about 9 or 10 am ad see what they had and then hurry down there. It worked.

Just something that might help.

The Academys in the DFW have had some recently. Got a couple boxes of Hornandy FTX JHP and Winchester FMJ's (50). Prices were not too bad. They get their ammo shipments on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Even found some .45 LC JHP.

I've been seeing more .380 around lately.

I picked up a couple hundred rounds of FMJ at a decent price today, and I saw
some Speer Gold Dot on the shelf at a different store.

It's still hit or miss but it's an encouraging sign.

I agree. I walked into Academy in Cedar Park yesterday and found both Hornady Critical Defense and Winchster Bonded PDX in .380 (about 10 boxes of each) plus at least 1500 rounds of FMJ (WWB and the Remington 100-round packs in green/orange box)

40 bucks for Independence ammo!! What a rip off. In fact I remember when I had to qualify for my last chl class and the stuff jammed every other round in my bersa .380. The instructor said we had to use a well established brand for shooting. I brought black hills but he said I should use the federals. After the 4th jam I told him I had Black Hills ammo and he told me to try it. I didn't have any ftf after that. IMO black hills is the best quality ammo for the price. Certain guns don't like certain brands of ammo and Black hills has always feed well through my firearms. Also I have had little problems with Magtech but blazer and especially Fiocchi I have have bad batches(boxes) that only 50% fired. Of course most local places don't carry black hills and you have to order it online. Try the black hills when ever the online companies have some in stock. It is well worth it.
I have had my LCP for about a month. Probably 200+ rounds through it. Monarch FMJ, WWB, Fiocchi, and Independence Factory Reloads. The Independence jammed every 3-5 shots. These were the second box that I bought. I started to have second thoughts about the LCP. Knowing that they were reloads, I decided to give the benefit of doubt to the ammo and not the firearm. Thoroughly cleaned the gun and tried the additional brands of ammunition. Never had another FTF or FTE. Felt much better about buying the LCP, by the way $299 at the Real Gun Show. Also from a post on another thread on this forum, purchased a pocket holster and Crimsnon Trace Laser trigger guard. http://www.pocketholsters.com. Excellent products and service.

Prez of one of the ammo manufacturers said that the companies only run a batch of the .380 once a year. Apparently, they then set the equipment up to produce other calibers. Given the fact I am seeing .380 in abundance wherever I go right now, would seem this must be the time of the year! That is what hurt them before... the LCP came out after they ran their batch... then the TCP, and the Obama-mania.
