The Annoyed Man wrote:They're missing the whole point of the Tea Party movement, then and now, which was taxes. Coffee drinking was a way of saying, "we'll drink coffee... ...as long as we have to pay taxes on tea!" Another idiot misunderstanding of the lessons of history.
I tried watching some Coffee videos and reading some of the facebook notes, and came away with a very mixed message. Overall, it sounds exactly like what it is: artificially manufactured astroturf that was invented from a central source to sound like something other than what it is.
Just the very fact that Coffee Party USA has a founder shows it's not a spontaneous grass-roots movement.
George Soros is supposedly the money guy behind the "grassroots" "Coffee Party." Guess the reporter who wrote the story at the beginning of this thread couldn't be bothered to report that information.

Yup, because the Tea Party movement has the market cornered for such behavior.

American is America for a reason and there are still a lot of us left that want our liberty and freedom. Our forefathers, Great Grandfathers, Grandfathers, and Fathers died for it and this former Marine served for it, and I will not have served in vein nor will my Father who spent several years in Vietnam who was spit on by these cowards running this counry. America is standing up and when that day happens those cowards sitting in coffee shops will run like the pukes they are. They can have all the common respect and " compassionate dialog" they want but this will not stand. Folks this is out of control!
I agree wholeheartedly. I swore an oath 23 years ago "to support and defend the Constitution of the United States" and just because I've been released from military service I still am bound by that oath, as far as I'm concerned. I've given sweat and blood for my country and I'll not let the sacrifices of my forefathers or brothers in arms be in vain.

I would say that even those that are "rich" and "powerful" have the same right to express their opinion as you and I. We may not agree but will defend to the death, their right to say it (paraphrase).
That it's not a grass roots movement, doesn't invalidate it's existence. Just makes it lame.

Yes they do.
But when they're deceptive about it, we still have the right to show it's illusionary, no matter how much Soros wants the American people to pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.
WASHINGTON — Demonstrators outside the U.S. Capitol , angry over the proposed health care bill, shouted " " Saturday at U.S. Rep. John Lewis , a Georgia congressman and civil rights icon who was nearly beaten to death during an Alabama march in the 1960s.
The protesters also shouted obscenities at other members of the Congressional Black Caucus , lawmakers said.
Real Classy.

With all the partisan politics, I wonder sometimes if we're not looking at another Civil War at some point in the future. The biggest problem in my opinion is that the Federal government is trying to mandate things like Obama-care. Let it be a state option, and if the Socialist State of Kalifornia wants to go further into the red supporting lazy people and illegal immigrants, let them. It's a state's rights issue...and shouldn't be decided on a federal level.

"States" Rights are a bit of a misnomer. Really States dont have "Rights" they have just have things that arent covered by the Feds.
Also commerce clause, commerce clause, commerce clause.
I would rather have them hand the insurance companies their rear ends, do SMART Tort reform (there very few things wrong with current tort laws) but mostly keep the insurance Companies honest

Thank you for mentioning that because the US Constitution clearly limits the types of commerce the Federal government has legitimate power to regulate. Clearly, the politicians pushing unconstitutional laws lack a basic command of the English language and civics.

The government could do a large part of that at next to no expense, by simply publishing what it pays for medical procedures. Instead, that data is kept secret, even from FOIA requests.
Of course, that wouldn't require creating a large bureaucracy to give jobs to their cronies or passing complex legislation so as to earn bribes from lobbyists, so it'll never happen.

Another simple reform would be to make medical expenses and insurance premiums tax free for everyone, not just for people who have a FSA or HSA or exceed 3%, and not just people who buy medical insurance through payroll deductions. That would have a big effect on people who work for a living with little effort, but it wouldn't give the government control over our personal lives. No wonder Obama and Pelosi oppose these reforms.
