DART rail???

#1

Post by scooter03 »

Does anyone know if this is off limits to chl? Not sure here, and another friend was asking in case he needs to ride. I was unable to answer. Thanks for the help in advance.

DART - Dallas Area Rapid Transit. City owned and carrying is no problem. It would be wise to carry alot of crackheads like the airconditioned ride.

El Centro College is across the street from a DART station. I've been there a few times very early in the morning and other times late into the nite. Not a place I like being without a gun.

I'd carry on it, even if you don't otherwise carry everyday.

:iagree:

If the DART system is anything like the Houston Metro choo-choo...

I wish someone would invent the personal "air-bag" system, so that when they hit something you have that little extra bit of protection...

Just curious...Any Dallas folks know if the DART system had an appreciably higher traffic accident rate when it first came on-line???

In Houston it was almost an everyday occurance...And I think it still is...(embelishment, hehehe)

Houston's light rail is the only rail-based public transit system that shares the streets with motor vehicles in the nation (or at least was when it went on-line). I don't think anyone looking at it would want to emulate that messed up system.
Remember, in a life-or-death situation, when seconds count, the police are only minutes away.

DART in Dallas has some areas where it shares the streets with cars as well. There have been some accidents in Downtown where the street wasn't wide enough for a car and the train at the same time. Other areas have had accidents where the rails run between the northbound and southbound lane and cars turn or cross in front of the train.

AH, finally I am right, this is what I told him. I thought it was city owned but maintained by other individuals. I really cant remember who maintains the cars.

I definitely would not ride without carrying there as soon as i get CHL, the wait now is killing me. Its been almost 7 days, woo hoo

DART is not city owned. It is a governmental entity.

Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) – a regional transit agency authorized pursuant to Chapter 452
of the Texas Transportation Code – was created by voters and funded with a one-cent local sales
tax on August 13, 1983. The service area
consists of 13 member cities: Addison,
Carrollton, Cockrell Hill, Dallas, Farmers
Branch, Garland, Glenn Heights, Highland
Park, Irving, Plano, Richardson, Rowlett and
University Park.
DART is governed by a 15-member board
appointed by member-city councils
based on population. Eight members are
appointed by the City of Dallas and seven
are appointed by the remaining cities.
Board members serve two-year terms with
no limits. Board officers are elected from
the board membership and serve one-year
terms.
Revenue from the voter-approved one-cent
sales tax, federal funds, investment income,
short- and long-term financing, and farebox
revenue fund the operation and ongoing
development of DART’s multimodal Transit
System Plan.

Wouldn't this keep us from carrying? I'm gettin all confused here. There are so many gray areas to this. That is why I am trying to learn as much as possible to carry when and where i can;.

A regional transit vehicle is not prohibited under Penal Code sections 46.03 or 46.035.

DART cannot restrict you from carrying even with a 30.06 sign.

My point is that even though DART is not owned or run by the city of Dallas, it is STILL a governmental entity.

Sorry for the confusion. I am one of those that can read the laws that are posted and still can't find an answer, so don't feel bad. Yes, you can carry on DART legally.
